Sensor Replacement Policy 2017

This is what I usually get, Jaap. 25%-85%.
The Leica charger does not tell me when a battery is fully charged. It shows a 80% charge or so. Then I use the battery down to 25% or so. Is this same as "cycling between 25% and 80%"?

Yes, do not fully discharge Lithium batteries. I researched this heavily after spending a lot of money on a high-end laptop. This is a holdover from NiCad batteries that does not apply to Lithium.

Charge early and often, but it's not good to leave plugged in 24/7 either.

As I remember Leica recommended not to store batteries fully discharged nor fully charged, and my take for longevity it is best to deeply cycle batteries.

I am so happy that I just got back from Leica NJ my pair of Leica M9 with brand new sensors. I sent them in on June 1st, so it took 3 months. One had visible corrosion but I sent both in just in case. Glad I did.

I kept reading that it was 24+ weeks and was expecting them ready by January 2018, so this is a very nice outcome indeed. I didn't call or email anyone either.; just let the elves at Leica do their work. The cameras were very nicely and neatly packaged with paperwork. Nothing but compliments to Leica.

Great news! I sent mine on July 22, so maybe I will get it back by October or November! Hopefully with a new sensor.

So you didn't get any notification of shipment? If so, was it shipped securely with a signature required?

Just curious, as sometimes I'm out of town for work/travel for an extended period of time and I would hate for them to deliver it without notice or signature and it just sit on my porch for a week. Luckily I live in a very low crime area and it would probably not get stolen, but still.

I did get notification on 9/1 and did require signature. It was shipped to work so there is always someone there. I've had a package stolen from my house in a nice part of Brooklyn (and many of my neighbors too) so I will not have anything shipped there.

As we approach August 15th;

Here's my story to this point, sent my M-E in early May. Had a evaluation within a two weeks. Sensor to be replaced, -$0- repair.

Mid May sent my Monocrom in. It took close to 8 weeks, and a couple of prodding e-mails to get the evaluation. The result another -$0- repair/sensor replacement.

I'd say things are quite backed up, and slowing down in NJ. With the deadline almost here it can't be getting better. I hope the needed resources are made available so things don't come to a total stop.

So, I will get two refurbished cameras in time, and I'm happy about that, but somewhat apprehensive about how long it will take.

You would think that Leica NJ would have a automated tracking service like Wetzer, but I've yet to find it. I anyone knows if there is one, and can share the info that would be great.

I do know from experience that my gal's devices have batteries that have lives that have been shortened. This is explained by her overcharging.

I dropped my MM1 on May 22 and was told 12 weeks (I dropped off in person). Called 2 weeks ago (15 weeks) and they still don't have the Monochrom sensors nor do they have an ETA on when they would be receiving them.

That ETA message may not be accurate. When NJ had my M-E, I was told the same thing. Then out of the blue I got a call from Leica Store in LA saying that they had my camera back ready for my pick up with new sensor fitted. Even though NJ was still saying no ETA!

I got a call this morning from Stephanie at Schiller's. My M9 will get a replacement sensor, without going to Germany. The work will be done in N.J., according to what Leica told her. No idea when I get it back.

Out of the blue today I received a shipment notification from UPS. It's from Leica, shipping me back (presumably) my M9. It's been almost exactly 3 months from the initial estimate - half the 24 month minimum projected time. Pretty good! I am impressed and very happy to be getting back my camera.

Great! That is good news! If they send mine back in three months from when it was sent to them, I'll have it in 10 days or 2 weeks! (Not holding breath.) 🙂

Update: As of November 3, no M9 yet. But judging by post # 459, below, maybe later this month I could have it!

I got mine back today. I sent it in through Downtown Camera at the very end of June. Since that was just before Canada Day here and the 4th of July in the U.S., I expect it didn't go out until about a week later. Test certificate is from New Jersey. Thanks to everyone who has been posting their experiences, as this was about when I expected it back given recent posts.

I finally received my M9. I sent it in about the middle of June so it's been slightly over 4 months.

Here's what it said on the invoice:

Although I am happy that I now have my camera back, what I am concerned about is that it specifically does not state on the invoice that the sensor has been replaced. While I'm not currently planning to sell my M9, if I ever do decide to sell, I'd like it to state plainly on the paperwork that the sensor was replaced. Potential future buyers may not understand that the above words on the invoice mean that the sensor was replaced.

Has anyone asked Leica to state clearly that the sensor was replaced? If so, how did they respond?
