I'm located in the US and am trying to service my R-D1s by Seiko Epson Japan. A known Japanese website who can serve as middleman lists a repair fee of 10,000 Yen for Epson's service, and will charge 5000 Yen as his fees, plus return shipping.

However, Espon Japan's website lists a fee of only 5250 Yen for repair... Does anyone know the reasons for the difference in repair fees?

Any insight is appreciated. Many thanks.

that has not been my experience...
the fee charged by epson is for the work they did...so that will vary with each job.
...my entire job, with shipping and epson's bill and the middleman fee was less than 300 bucks.
and now the rd1 purrs...

5000 yen is some 45 euros. I would say that you cannot decently ask for less if the person takes the japanese side handling in charge. They need to pay the rent too, don't they.

I have had dealings with Dirk @ Japan Exposures in the past and the experience is always 1st rate.
For what you get the service charge is worth it.

I had a great experience with Dirk at Japan Exposures brokering my R-D1 repair at Epson. On top of Epson's service charges, I paid only shipping and Dirk's JPY 5000 fee. Well worth it IMO.

Am I the only one, who reads the site as just stating a repair cost price cap by EPSON at 10.000 yen?

As I understand, there is no "price" quoted on Dirk's site, just the informational EPSON price cap and the info, that one will get an individual quotation over approximate costs after having provided informations about camera and possible damage.

All in all, I see a very professional offer on the site.

I consider, to have my now unused R-D1 CLA'd, freshly covered and handled via Japan Exposures, but I am slooow to decide.

Another vote for Dirk from me.
I've dealt with Japan Exposures a couple of times. He's a great guy, and if I had an RD-1 he's the only person I'd trust to get it sorted.
