now that the article is done, the images are powerful - perhaps some of my best work ever.... how do i go about chasing the various awards / prizes / grants / opportunities that this can allow for?
i dream of a pulitzer next year for this... i know there are others ...
to give a little context - it's a strong social weight issue -- it's tough journalism... not people dying or any such thing...
just need a little direction as to how to manage a situation of being in the right place at the right time and with the right people.... how do i propel it to bigger and better things with a potential payday / or opportunity

In what way were they 'published'? And by which wire service? I don't quite understand what you're saying.

Was covering an event and hooked up with the reporter who was not a photographer ~ they're using my photos with the story. ~ not saying too much until photos hit
They are Pulitzer eligible ~ they have a more narrow focus than ap or upi
I'm just trying to figure out how to parlay this into a bigger opportunity
In short, what now?

I don't know about the USA, but most funding bodies in Canada only recognize "professional artists" defined as those who have extensive gallery presence, a bunch of work published and many (although they say they don't, they really do) take into consideration schooling as well. After 12 years, some gallery shows, some published photos, I haven't even got a shiny penny from any of the grants I've applied to. I'm going to try again this year, but won't keep my hopes up.
In Canada we have the Canada Arts Council and each province and city have their own Arts Council that provides grants (so where I live we have the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council). However, there are private foundation, corporate grants, etc. that are also available. Try to link up to an organization that keeps a directory of all these funds that are available for artists. If you want to continue your work on the Klan, it might be worth asking the Jewish community leaders if there are funds available to shoot this issue in light that you're bringing forward a pressing issue for that community.

Congratulations on your work done. I hope that something very good will come out of it for your career. I am looking forward to read the article and to see the images.

Well, anything is possible although you shouldn't build up expectations that you will actually win. Hopefully, you will at least be a finalist, which in itself is a strong honor.
Anyone can win, if the photo is strong enough.
The Kent State photo won the Pulitzer in 1970 and was taken by John Filo, then a college student, and there is a great story that accompanies it.

"Entry and prize consideration
The Pulitzer Prize does not automatically consider all applicable works in the media, but only those that have specifically entered. (There is a $50 entry fee, paid for each desired entry category.) Entries must fit in at least one of the specific prize categories, and cannot simply gain entrance for being literary or musical. Works can also only be entered in a maximum of two categories, regardless of their properties.
Each year, 103 judges are selected to serve on 20 separate juries for the 21 award categories (one jury for both photography awards). Most juries consist of five members, except for those for public service, investigative reporting, beat reporting, feature writing and commentary categories, which have seven members. For each award category, a jury makes three nominations. The board selects the winner by majority vote from the nominations, or —75% majority vote — bypasses the nominations and selects a different entry. The board can also vote to issue no award. The board is not paid for its work."

thanks everybody --- it was a weird experience... it was cold, raining, and extreme police presence in riot gear - tensions were high... fortunately, nothing got out of hand- - though the other guys covering the event were hoping for some action
