At one point I took a picture of one of the Security Guards who was trying to discreetly do some text-messaging on his cell phone while standing behind one of the center display cases. He looked up and saw me taking his picture and said, "you can't take pictures in here." That amused me since there were camera wielding folks throughout the exhibit space (I mean, why would everyone have their camera out if they couldn't use them, right?). So I, without thinking, simply said, "yes, you can. you just can't take pictures of the exhibited artwork." He then looked kinda funny so I explained that the signs all say to not photograph the displayed art, which makes sense because the museum doesn't want people simply making copies of the artwork, but taking pictures of everything else is okay. I then quickly said that I wasn't trying to argue with him or be difficult but that's the policy as I understood it. He then sorta mumbled, "oh, okay," and wandered off. I was then kinda dumbfounded to realize he so readily accepted my explanation.
