Hey guys, recently I've been scanning quite a bit of film lately (6x7 and 4x5 negs), and in certain places where there are quite a bit of shadows when it runs thru the scanner it turns out with blotchy black digitzed messes. I was wondering if anyone has ran into this situation before and knows a solution? thanks

You'll get that if you have ICE turned on but are scanning black and white silver film. ICE only works on C41/E6 type films.

I have been told that digital ICE detects the silver grain as dust.
Results were not subtle, I suspect perhaps more is going on in the OP's scans, but Digital Ice should be turned off for B&W silver negatives. ;-)
I have seen something similar with 16 bit scans of B&W prints, scanned in color.
Beginning to think scanning is alchemy?
