Shemagh scarf

Hi. Anyone knows where I can get a good quality “shemagh scarf"? and how much do they cost + shipping to Canada?

I know you can get them from *bay and some other online sources but I don't know how authentic they are. Someone told me nice shemaghs are thicker than the one I’m currently using. The one I have is not the real deal (made by Proforce). It's the most versatile piece of winter gear money can buy. 🙂

the only ones I know of are good for filtering dust, but don't do much for the cold (traditional desert wear). You could try ordering from a military supply (like Quartermasters) or Outdoor sports (like Cabelas).

Authentic ones are very warm and the best for protection from bitter cold winds that could blow at night in the open deserts. I used to wear one when taking sunrise photos in the American Southwest. These days I may be harassed for wearing this traditional wear due to .... ???? who knows what you can call it.

You live in Canada, so there is a smaller chance of being a target of racially motivated harassment.

They have excellent Yashmagh wear in Jordan,and you may get it online from one of the many Arab stores located in Dearborn Michigan, which is close to Canada. You can also try Missasauga (?) located close to Toronto. Again, use google.com to find an online store.

I have one exactly like the bedouins are wearing in Raid's photo, and, in fact, I think I got it in a town near Petra. But it wouldn't be particularly good in really cold weather, which is one reason they never became traditional North Woods wear. 😎

They are made out of cotton, soak up sweat and water, and are great for the desert, but I gotta say, they'd suck in Fargo.

Joe: The outfit includes the black bands (koofiyya) which I do not wear. The Yashmagh is only the scarf which is a less obvious head cover.

Hi Raid. Thank you also for your advice. Missasauga is kinda close to Toronto depending where you are in Toronto. I usually wear my shemagh by simply wraping it around my neck........like a "neck gator". If it's really cold, I would cover half my face with it. I've only once had to wrap my whole head with it. I was so glad I had it that day.

Joe......I'll post some pic's of how I wear mine tomorrow. I think you would really like them. Very versatile piece of gear to have.

P.S. I just found a place to buy them only minutes from my home. I'm gonna check them out tomorrow. They are suppose to be authentic.

I got a new red and white shemagh for $10 CDN. 🙂 It's a little larger than the original one I have in this pic. Anyway, this is how I wear mine most of the time when it's cold and windy.

Notice the black bar across my eyes. Now no one will be able to recognize me. 😀

That's how I would wear my Yashmagh when bitter cold wind is blowing (not here in Pensacola though).

lol......that's what my buddies say also. You can pull it lower so it doesn't cover your mouth or you can pull it higher to cover you nose if it's very, cold. You can wrap your whole head if you don't have a hat. You'll get a lot of looks if you do. 😱

William.......by all means you should try and get your hands on one. I'm sure you will like it. I've used it from -35 degrees celsius to +10 degrees celsius. You can use it as a towel, rope, carrying pouch, arm sling, ect.

Why do I sound like a sales person? 😛
