Which carrier do you recommend for shipping a lens from Canada to USA? I just bought a lens, and I need to figure out shipping options.

Thanks.

Canada post.

FedEx & similar lead to all sorts of problems, I've heard, regarding duties / taxes etc. Others here might be able to help....

I just bought a Minolta camera body (XD-11) and it looks like postage (Canada Post) was about $20 Canadian

Full insurance is a must. Canada Post comes with $100 included in the price. For items over $1000, I use UPS as Canada Post no longer insures for more. I've shipped some pricey items from Canada to the U.S. And CP or UPS has been reliable. But beware on CP tracking, as once in the U.S., tracking seems to lag, even on the usps site. I once had a kit showing as sitting in California for three days with no update and then the buyer on the east coast said it arrived.

Once a projector shipped to me from Canada by UPS. UPS routed it to the US Customs and charged me a $26.00 "broker's fee." Not only that; they also routed the slide trays that went with it through customs. You guessed it: another $26.00 broker's fee. And how much did Customs want? Nothing. No need: the USA has a free trade agreement with Canada (and others). Nobody asks UPS to route anything through Customs.

From then on, I ask that shipments from Canada be sent via Canada Post. When the package crosses the border it automatically goes to USPS, and is routed right to my door. The United States government doesn't see a need to route shipments from Canada through its own Customs Office.

UPS is a rip. Avoid!

Four months ago I purchased off of Ebay an old 50mm Elmar (nickel) lens from a seller in Ontario Canada. They shipped it Canada Post and charged me $25 (shipping total). The lens arrived in California within 5 or 6 days. No issues what-so-ever. With the tracking number for Canada Post the seller supplied I was able to track it to my doorstep.

I note that Purolator is used by B+H.
Give Purolator a call.
Insurance, customs and taxes, signature reqd..
Fed-Ex, UPS and others appear to pad the cost..
Canada Post is excessively expensive.
a ordinary letter is $1.😀

Bingo !

I shipped a camera from Canada to a buyer in the U.S. It got held up by U.S. Customs for several days and the buyer became obnoxious. Be patient.
