Those look good Mike.
I am going to give D96 a bash next week after I mix it up at the weekend. Any tips?
Sorry about the delay in getting back on the D96. Weather has been too good - and I have been shooting instead of "souping".
The D96 is very similar to D76 - but tends to favor mid-tones and shadows a bit more (it is after all a moviestock geveloper and they could control light closely).
Speed seems to hold at about 250/320 iso - but test for your own light measures ( I do a lot of Sunny F16 shooting - so precision is not paramount - and the D96 handles variations fine).
Use it with the replenisher and filter frequently - amazing amount of crap collects in the stock!!!!! I usually mix 2000 ml of stock and 1000 ml of replenisher - which gives me 10 x 5 rolls in Paterson 1500 ml tanks ( 5 reels). 30 second of agitation initially and then 3 "flips" and "taps" every 60 seconds.. Rinse and fix as usual. I pour the developer back in the graduate (2000 ml paterson jug) and add the 100 ml of replenisher (stir it around and pour off 100 ml from the stock - my containers are 2000 ml and the addition of the replenisher would soon fill them to overflow!
I found that 7 minutes gives the best balance between mid-tones and shadow details in daylight. Shooting in low light or tungsten - I would rate the film at 200 and probably give it 8 min - but reduce agitation to 3 flips/taps every 120 sec - but test for that as it very much depends on your measuring tecnique.
I just finished 35 rolls of the +X/EK 5231 today - processed in Beutler 1:1:10 for 6.5-7 minutes and I have another 30+ rolls to shoot in my Nikon Rf Month project and was thinking of mixing up some D96 for those rolls. Your query decided it - will mix some up and finish up the last of my 5231 with it - and then do some 5222 later.
Storage of D96 is unknown - as I tend to go through the 2000 ml of stock in 30-35 days - and for that time it stays the same. More than that I dont know - but probably 6-8 weeks would be safe in well sealed bottle.
Let us know you like it. There are a couple of 100 shots on our Flicke site done with D96 and XX and other films.

May I kindly ask where one can acquire:
1. Eastman 5222 in short bulk rolls?
and
2. D96 developer?
I contacted Kodak Canada, and they told me I could order Eastman 5222 in large canisters from them by mail, but I don't need 300+ feet of the stuff.
Could anyone offer any suggestions?

1. Short ends are a crap shoot, they tend to go quickly. Click on the "project-double-x" XX Website link, best to make some telephone inquiries with the sources listed near you. Some sell out of shortends in a matter of hours. Or bite the bullet, buy 400ft, and split it with somebody here. You would be getting superfresh, unopened film that way, and you can get 75 rolls of 36 exposure rolls of XX out of a 400' can.

2. D96 is mixed from bulk chemistry. The formula is listed earlier in this thread. Or just use D76, ID11, or another developer, in you don't want to mix.
Actually buying a 400' roll and bulk chemicals from Artcraft, Photographers Formulary, etc is very cost effective, unless you just want a few rolls to try out. Can't help there, myself, but perhaps another XX addict here could.

I did run 5 rolls of EK 5231 last night in D96 - 6 min, but my darkroom was a bit hot so times were too long. Slightly over-cooked and dense negs, though they scan well.
With bright or contrasty scenes I have done 5222 at 6 min and that seems to hold the high/lows well. For more "normal" contrast you can safely go 7 min with 60 sec interval for agitation.

I developed a few rolls in Rodinal last night. The grain is decent with great tones. I developed for 7 minutes at 20C. I used 10ml per roll (50ml in a 1.5L 5 roll tank). I agitated continuously for the first 30 seconds and then for 10s every 1.5 minutes rolling the tank on its side. Negatives are great. I rated the film at ISO 250.

And here is a link to another RFF thread, where Tom down in Texas is using Microdol-X 1:1 (Freestyle Legacy brand- available on their website) with Double-X 5222.
Stuff looks real real good to me!

For Tom A - next time he is passing.
I really like the results I got with D96. Have you tried it with Tri-X and if so any advice on ASA/times?

I posted a shot of the moon I took last night here on the Flickr 5222 group.

This was taken with my Leica IIIA mounted on my 2500mm catadioptric. I normally use my trusty Nikon F2 but wanted to try the Barnack.
I processed D76@ 9 minutes. I get more grain at ISO 400 with D76 than I do with Diafine or Rodinal. However, the shadows are much more prominent using D76. I might cut down on the number of inversions in my development cycle and see.
Cheers,
Gary

Andy, I have used the D96 with TriX and Arista Premium 400. I use as I would D76 - rating the TriX at 320 (roughly - as most of it is Sunny F16 type shooting) and the D96 for 7-7.5 minutes (this is with replenisher - 20 ml/roll). I haven't tried pushing TriX with D96 - but considering that it is a D76 derivative, it should work well. Maybe 800 iso and 8.5 -9 min in the D96.

Thanks Tom. Have a roll of Tri-X in the MP at the mo so will give it a whirl.

Andy, if you go to our Flickr and tag "TriX D96" there are some shots done with this combination. Most at 7 min - though TriX is tolerant enough to handle 7.5 - and you get a bit better shadow detail from it. As for giving it a whirl - not too much of one - it is agitation sensitive!
Let us know how it worked out.

Yes it has 35mm sprocket holes pretty much like Tri-X (or any other 35mm film).

It's a 35mm motion picture film, it pretty much has to have sprockets.
