You're Welcome, Vincent.G
I've used TD-201 myself. It worked very well for me with XX.
Right now, I am still investigating full-strength Microdol-X (with Replenisher).
Since I have alot of Fuji Neopan 1600 & 400 to shoot and process, it makes sense to stick with this developer, for a while.
I would like to make some more TD-201 at some point.

I use the lid of a 11x14 print box as a "work" surface. This way cassette, cap, scissors etc are staying put. Murphy's Law decrees that anything that can roll off the work table - will do so! At least with the 11x14" box lid - it can't go too far!
I think the Murphy boys all have taken up residence on cots in the film changing rooms of photographers around the world.

70mm Double-X
Well I finally got a 70mm bulk film roller. I just did the first one in my film change tent and using my fingers to see how much was on the roll. Ended up being about 90 cranks, which might be too much.
A few questions;
1. Whats happens with the A70 once it hits 70? Will it stop me using the remaining film?
2. Can the loading, attaching the tail to the spool be done in daylight before closing the cartidge door and cranking? I assumed it would be like 35mm film loaders and could be done in daylight.
Ive loaded two A70's. The film is a different colour than i expected, its a creamy white colour.
Daniel.

IAlso alot of the aerial films are thinner base films, and a lot more than 70 exposures will go in the 70mm cartridges. I have literature from Hasselblad that states that some aerial films are thin enough that you can get up to 250 exposures in a 70mm cartridge. But, of course, the Hasselblad A70 film counter only goes up to 70!

1) The counter only goes to 70, but you can continue on, just no frame count after 70. They made a 250 exposure-counter model, but they are rare. You should be fine. Hasselblad issued some literature, and basically, the thinner the film base, the more exposures can be loaded into a standard 70mm cartridge. Some of the aerial films are -really- thin and will hold 250 exposures in a 70mm film cartridge.
2) Yes it's a daylight load after loading the 70mm cassette. Yes you have to wind-on past the exposed part.
What kind of 70mm film is it exactly? Probably has no antihalo backing.

I've not yet shot any of my XX in my M3, but I shot my first roll this past weekend in my LC-A and I liked it. I shot at 200 and developed in Diafine. The resulting strip of film looked to me a lot like a well washed TMax strip but the blacks were way richer then the other films I've done in Diafine, including the Arista Premium and HP5 hanging next to it that were both also done with the same Diafine.
It seems to have good range and I look forward to loading some into my M3 and going out for a walk and grabbing some shots soon. And also using it any and all of my other film cameras

I've shot 2 rolls and like it a lot so I am thinking about buying a bulk roll and spooling it myself..
Love the tonality it produces when printed..

+1. Absolutely agree. Tonality and gradual drop off of decreasing light just fantastic.I've shot 2 rolls and like it a lot so I am thinking about buying a bulk roll and spooling it myself..

Rating at 400, stand developing in Rodinal I'm getting still quite grainy results compared to those of you using D76 and Xtol

I find that XX responds bets to a MQ type developer (D76/D96/ID 11) in most cases. Some more exotic developers also works well (Pyrocat HD, PMK). It is a bit sensitive to under exposure - the grain gets rougher.

I actually bought some double-x after looking through this thread.
Here are a few from my first roll of 5222.
Now I need to get some in bulk and figure that out.

I agree with TomA. I am going back to using ADOX Borax MQ for my XX. I have also used PMK+, Dr. Blood's (Leica) developer, and a combo of HC-110 & Rodinal, but the D-76 types do seem to respond better for me to the XX.

Chris, these look really great. What did you use for a developer?
I've also found with Rodinal stand developing has more apparent grain than Xtol or D76, although if I decrease the temp to about 15 degrees Celsius it gets much tighter with Double X. YMMV!![]()

Thanks! I like them as well. I have to admit that I took these to my local lab for hand developing. I will enquire as to what they used next time I'm there, but I plan to do the other 5 rolls I have at home. I need to mix up some chemistry and wanted to test the film before taking it on vacation. I have Rodinal, D76 and HC-110, all unmixed. Not sure what I'm going to try first, but I certainly will keep your suggestions in mind.

Best of luck, Chris. I've had good results with all of your options, as well as Xtol. Your shots really show the gradations of tone available with Double X!

Some more Double-X shots. These were all shot with my Minolta CLE and either my Elmarit-M 28mm Asph, or the Summicron-C 40mm. Developed in D76 stock for 7 min @ 20°C.
I picked up my rolls at filmphotographyproject.com (no affiliation with the site, but they are darn convenient, if a little expensive, for just trying something like this out)
I liked the look so much, I bought 100ft in bulk from them as well.
