I'll be in Istanbul over the weekend and will try to do some photography.
Should I take Bronica RF645 / 65mm lens or a 35mm RF like Canonet (I'd rather not take the M6)?
Thanks for advice.

I lived in Istanbul several years. There are a lot of things you can see in a short time. Some of the sites and museums charge you extra to bring in a camera; nonetheless many indoor as well as outdoor scenes are colorful and worth shooting. Sunsets over the Bosphorous are nice, and you can take very cheap passenger ferries between the Europe and Asia sides.

So, lots of photos, many indoor, would drive me to the 35mm format Canonet and a supply of ISO 400 color film. In fact, I'd take a couple of extra rolls more than you think you will need.

I went to Istambul a month ago. I carried my Zeiss Ikon and MP and
15, 28, 35 and 50 lenses. I used them all, and all the film I carried.
If I had had with me a 90, it would have had
a good use also. Had to change batteries of Zeiss Ikon (easy to replace).
Nobody paid any attention to my cameras (except some comment about
how old they looked). Everybody has DSLR nowadays, or those little
things that make all sorts of noises before and after a picture is made.

In fact, I wandered around the camera shops area, and almost all the
film gear was gone (with the notably exception of some Voigtlander
cameras and lenses). You could find, however, a couple of M8's.

I was there last year, used MP and 50mm, but I wish I had a wider lens if I can do it again. 21 would be nice but 28 will do the trick.

You have to shoot slides, it is a very colorful city in summer time, particularly in the markets, city streets, landmarks, bridges and straits, foods. I had all with EB3, came out great. marginally inexpensive compared to other slides, RDP3 also will do.

Thank you very much everyone for your comments and advice. From what various people have said above, I feel tempted to take the M6 after all. Lenswise, I have 15CV, 28CV, 50 'lux and 90 elmarit-M. Do I need to take the lot (everything does fit into one smallish bag: Lowepro Rezo 140AW) or will 28mm and 50mm do?
Thanks.

I would bring the Leica, I never leave home without it, NEVER!

If I were to drop two lenses, the 15 and the 90, but that is just me, I like to use between 24 and 50 at the most. My staple lens is the 35mm.

I like to get close to the subjects that I am photogrpahing, I also want people to know that they are being photographed, insinuating that I have their permission to be in their space and they know I am their to photograph. This also gives them a chance to say no, in which case I move on, and find my next photograph.

Good luck, sounds like fun, wish I could go, but stuck at home for a while!

Magus,
if I had to drop one, it would be the 15 (CV). But my vision is not very wide😀 .
It was my least used lens (by several reasons, its speed among them).
However, it's so small and light that it is impossible not to carry it.
If I had to drop two, then probably the 15 and de 28 would rest at home.
But that's the point of rangefinder equipment, it's so light that you
put it in your bag, and there you go. Also, I rarely switch while shooting.
I decide which lenses I will use, and stick with them several hours (but that's
why I carry two bodies).

I'm off to nearby Bulgaria in 7 weeks. Travelling light, so the SLR kit will stay at home. I'll be using my Voigtlander kit probably with no more than 3 lenses. I probably won't take the 90mm. I love my 35mm lens, the 25mm is a must, can't decide whether to take the 15mm or the 50mm or both.

I'll probably end up taking all 5 as whichever lens I don't take I'll need the most. :bang:

In Istambul next weekend? Me too! If you spot someone with a battered Zorki-4 or with an Iskra, that will be me. Hope to make a couple of decent shots late Saturday and Sunday morning.
Enjoy your trip

Do take the 90; you won't use it as much as thewides, but there are some shots where it'll be essential. If you take a ferry to the Asia side, the views coming back look like something off the cover of a sci-fi novel, especially in the evening. I would nominate Istanbul as the #1 photo city in the world.

Dear Friend, and i must start by stating "dear friend", as upon my 8 days experience in Istambul, being only for a weekend you may find yourself there eating your hat .

Istambul is of the kind of photographic situations in which you are overwhelmed by the richness and cuantity of photo opportunities, whatever your interests may be. Everything is interesting there.

So perhaps try to remember yourself in similar situations and act accordingly.

Cheers,
Ruben
