Interesting choices, I think most might disagree on a few left out?

From what I understood it seems those were the most popular with their readership, not necessarily top sellers or best in class

Why did I even read that list? Should have given up when I saw that turd at No:50

Arguments? Naaa!
Nothing like riling up the masses with a "best of" list.
No press camera represented.
...and I completely agree...the Nikon V1?

Nothing pushes up the web stats like a bit of controversy. As for putting the Ilford Witness on the list... how many mortals have even seen one?!!

Hmm...13 of the 50 cameras listed were made in the last 10 years. Guess the previous 164 years of photography before that didn't produce a whole lot of 'great' cameras.

They have to make it relevant for current readers too...

Have you used it? I have not but some people I respect are incredibly positive about it.

Or maybe they knew how awful Deardorffs are next to Gandolfis (no longer made in London, incidentally -- or possibly at all).no Deardorff,
plebian readership I guess![]()
Few people have ever tried enough cameras to choose "the best": where are the Alpas? Tessinas? Linhofs? Besides, "the best" is the sort of thing that intelligent people grow out of in their teens, or at the latest, when they are old enough to admit that they are unlikely ever to be able to afford the consumerist icons. Which is "best"? Rolls Royce? Bentley? Aston Martin? Ferrari? Which does what you want? Which can you afford?
Then again, the ad at the head of the page when I went to it was for "Royal Baby", which tells you something about the sort of readers they are expecting.
Cheers,
R.

I guess -- assuming of course that 'all time' means within only a short period of time.

but the ones who don't are the people who actually leave a mark on this world.

You may well have a point there, except when it comes to really intelligent people like Einstein. Then again, are all the marks that are left on the world to the advantage of the world?but the ones who don't are the people who actually leave a mark on this world.

I like how "Rolleiflex TLR" is one entry, while there are any number of Canon and Nikon DSLRs that merit their own entries. If the Rolleis are to be lumped together, then why not lump the DSLRs together too, since they're basically a series of iterations.

Wow, no Minolta cameras on this list? The Minolta 7000 started the autofocus revolution. Come to think of it, no autofocus filmcameras whatsoever on this list. Strange.....

I've seen it and handled it and seen images made from it. i guess i would like it if i was a "hello kitty" fan? Putting this in to a top 50 anything other than "the top 50 worst cameras for a serious photographer" is a joke.
