Fascinating how many cars had bits that you must get to that were blocked; especially spark plugs... And they they used to go on and on about how much it cost to design them and the designers would be paid good money to do it.

IRC, the big Citroens had a hole cut in the body above the rear spark plug for the tool to go through. A simple solution no one bothered to copy.

Edit: and no sooner had I typed and submitted that when I remembered all those oil filters that were neatly hidden behind something so you could just see them but couldn't even touch them. I once had to drain the coolant out of the engine and take off the radiator to change an oil filter that had jammed so tight we reckoned it was the one fitted at the factory and left untouched for years. And I had a similar spark plug that took the local service agent a few days to sort out. Luckily they did it for free and put it on display...

My car is behind the yellow vette... When I saw the nice Ford I had to stop and snap! As a teen I rebuilt and drove a 1950 2-door.

My first car was a 1949 Ford coupe. It was black with chartreuse top and fender skirts. Sharp!

It was really clean and well kept! I have my kids' emergency potty break to thank for this photo. The Fairlane pulled up at the Safeway we stopped at, and I snapped a few photos before we hit the road again. 😀

Paulbe, thanks for pointing out the "Thunderbird" engine! I think that makes it a 1956 and not a 1955 model, I'll edit my caption. 🙂

Tbirds were around in 1955, too. Not sure if the 312 Cu in engine was available in '55--and the car does look like a '56, now that you mention it!
