There’s just no substitute for the esthetic perfection an early E-Type. There’s no angle or height from which they don’t look good. Nothing out of place, no pointless creases, and nothing extra stuck on for dubious effect. YMMV, but these have always been a complete, and unalloyed joy to me. Well, except for keeping the carbs syncd, that wasn’t an unalloyed joy.

pre-68 Jaguar E-type ... One of the "most ahead of its time cars" of the period. Beautiful still, although I always thought the wheel wells looked a little empty with the stock, narrow wheels and tires on them. I had a '66 that looked much like the car in the photograph.
I never found the carburetors to be that difficult to tune and sync if the gaskets and throttle shafts were in good condition, but I did a lot of them (worked as a mechanic in a shop that specialized in British cars at the time) so maybe it was just practice.

My '67 Lancia Fulvia Coupe is in the shop being ministered to. Carburetors came back from the specialist rebuilder a couple of days ago, looking and working like brand new!
Now with electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, valves adjusted, the carburetors tuned up in an instant and the engine runs perfectly! Just a couple more details to go and I'll be driving again.

Carburetor Rescue to the rescue Godfrey?
hehe ... As I suspected, the accelerator pump on one of them had come apart in the float bowl, the actuating linkage on the other was bent causing the throttle to hang up. The shop did a spectacular job of repairing the damage, cleaning, and flow-testing ... Truly great work!
