Yes - I'll bet that black Voigtländer lens really makes the III more enjoyable to use. It looks quite good and proper.

Pretty sure I've posted this one in other threads in the past....

I sold this one a few years back, and I only had it for a very brief time. At the time it was listed by KEH as a 'Leica IIIcK, repainted', and I believe it was $600. There weren't any photos of it (as is generally the case with KEH), so I bought it literally sight-unseen. I tend to gravitate to 'weird' item descriptions with no photos 🙂

It was in fact a Leica IIIcK repaint (I'm assuming it was originally grey), but what KEH didn't realize was that not only was it a IIIcK repaint, but it was a Luftwaffe IIIcK repaint. Shipment 9439, delivery date 2/3/1943, 17 cameras in the batch.

I sold it the day after I got it - I should have held onto it for a bit longer.

Great story, Vince, I remember it from some time ago.

Many people think that only the camera's with a "K" on the curtains and after the serial number have ball-bearings, but in fact all the IIIc's before Nr. 450 000 have ball-bearing shutters. The "K" after the serial number and on the curtains were only military obligations.

Whoa...that looks like a factory repaint, if indeed it was originally grey.

Dunno - I showed it to Jim Lager and he said (and I agreed at the time) that it was a 'bad' repaint. Now whether that meant that someone other than the factory did it, who knows. One thing I do know is that Luftwaffe IIIcK's are very scarce, hence my wish that I'd held onto it for a bit longer. Ah well, live and learn.

'bad' or not, it looks factory to me, just aged.

But I've never heard of a IIIck that was originally black.

Jim is the expert for sure.

Would love to come across a IIIck at some point, for the time being more than happy with my red curtain IIIc.

... watch out, Model I is hopelessly addictive.

You’re right. Athough I love my 1934 Leica III, the Model I has a strong appeal for me and now I want one. There is something special about that “mound” the shutter speed dial sits on and the simple elegance of the viewfinder.

...
The Leica I used originally the FILCA A type. I have a Leica I that accepts only FILCA A and B cassettes, but not the modern cassettes from the film companies. The FILCA A was not entirely reliable.
...

Is it only certain Leica I’s which won’t accept modern cassettes?
