Anyway, another question, a bit off topic perhaps. Both David and Jesse showed very nice M9s with black dots. Did you paint over or did they come with those?

I think the previous owner replaced it, as it can be purchased from DAG for $22.

My M6 classic does not show any significant brassing yet, but has more scratches than when I first got it..

Doing something to brass it artificially is not my thing.

I thought M6's were Black Chrome therefore no brassing. Chroming? Does not look as good.

I own an M6 TTL Black Paint, aka Millennium. It is not an M6.

Stephen Gandy writes that the LHSA was initially intended to be based on the classic M6 but that the M6TTL was eventually used.

So today I took custody of a fairly worn M4 BP. The body's pretty beat but nice. There are a few dings but it's been serviced and works like a charm.

Pretty nice Philip. A well used piece to be used for decades more makes for a nice history. Like you and others I'm always confounded by brassing near the viewfinder window and rest of the front part of the top plate, but going in and out of a bag thousands of times seems the logical explanation.

Philip, that M4 is lovely!
My GL690 has (almost) a similar uneveness in the brass surface from many years of professional use and I think it looks great. I'd really love to own an original black M, but can't really justify the premium.
