Hi, I know this an old thread but I just noticed you have a Jupiter-12 mounted on your Canon 7, something I've read over and over that wasn't possible. how did this set up work out? any problems with the rear element hitting the light baffels?

The later all black J-12's will usually fit the Canon 7/7s without touching the baffles. Best thing to is borrow one and mount it with the film door open so you can monitor the fit of the rear element. Once it's mounted, adjust the focus while watching the rear element to see if it's going to make contact with the baffle during it's travels. With both the Canon 7 & 7s I owned, there was enough clearance between the element and baffles that I could slide an index card between the two. I have also seen them mounted on the Canon P before.

None at all, haven't used this combination much though. There was a LONG thread - and frequent queries - about in the Canon forum and the consensus was the newer version of the lens were fine. A search there will find it easy enough.

Thanks Ken and Airds. I just saw your replies. So I gingerly tried my old J-12 on my Canon 7 with the shutter locked open and the back elements clears the ridges on the baffles no problem. And this is one of the old silver models although the serial number starts with "63" (made in 1963?). I'm still working through my first roll with the camera so we'll see. I guess there's a plus side to lack of quality control.

In the continuing spirit of providing balance on the Internet, here is a photo of my recently acquired Canon P mounted to a later production (ca 1982) LZOS Jupiter-12.

It is a close fit, but there is at least a millimeter of clearance on all sides even at infinity.

And just because I like the top plate of this camera so much, here is the view topside...

The Canon 7 is a nice mechanic, and I think you have time to overhaul it. It all depends if you have to use slow speeds or not. I almost never use them so I would not spend money only for that. 😉

Hey everyone. I'm new here. Just got back into shooting 35mm after picking up this beautiful little machine. Bought off Ebay for somewhat cheap... She was in rough shape when I got her. Took a day to clean her up and I made a homemade neck strap to accompany. Very fun to shoot with and very compact. Shot with my Canon EOS 7D. The new shooting the old.

And here's why I got it for cheap.... Big dent on the filter ring on the end of the lens... not that big of a deal for me, and I wasn't willing to pay twice as much for a mint camera. I love my QL17 just as it is.

I have not posted images before, so let's see what happens...

If you guys like them, let me know and I will post more. I have other goodies. Please note that the black 85/1.9 is mounted on a VTDM body with the Zoomfinder VL. I would not use it that way, but it is a correct configuration and it makes a fun image. I saw on other threads some discussion, including a bit of mis-information about the 85mm lenses. The 85/1.9 lightweight (black) lens is indeed scarce and it is usually expensive. I had to bleed a little for my copy, but I am glad I found it.

Rapidwinders are available fairly regularly on eBay in the $200 range. They are very well built and a joy to use. I have enclosed a shot of a mint-in-the-box example along with a IVSb2 body with another Rapidwinder and a 50mm f1.5.

I recently got this Canon from KEH.com. It was described as a Canon III but based on the serial numbers, made in occupied Japan engraving at the bottom and the maximum shutter of 1/500 sec, I think it is IIB. The light meter is a Brockway Norwood Director M-2, the grandaddy of the Sekonic L-398. The meter still works accurately despite being 50 years old or so. I'm testing the camera right now. The viewfinder is a little dim and very squinty compared to my Leica IIF and Fed-1. I plan to just use it with my wide angle lenses with a viewfinder.

I have tried to sell this camera three times on RFF, but no takers. This is not a plug. I guess I am suppose to keep it. The lens just fell into my lap yesterday. This is the best 50mm f1.4 I have come across yet!
