I have a picture somewhere of me with two of those cameras, both with motors, shooting in a cornfield in SW Ohio. Circa 1967. Really? Motor drives in a cornfield? What was I thinking?

Everytime I see this setup I think how unergonomic they look - all those square edges and so forth. But I never the less love the look. All hard technical function that matches the camera with little concession to the human using it. Beautiful in the way that a Landrover Mark 1 or a Webley revolver are beautiful. That is beautiful in an ugly way. :D

  • Nikon F2. Former press camera, unknown Dutch photographer. Smooth as butter.
  • 2.0/28mm non-Ai. This lens was used by a Detroit Free Press photographer and has seen it all. Minolta hood permanently attached.
  • 3.5/55mm Ai'd. No hood necessary and close focuses at 24cms.
  • 2.5/105mm Ai. Restored to life by me. Likely an ex-press lens, considering its scars. It had a ton of crud in the mount and focusing, had bent rear-element guard and ditto filter threads. It's smooth and straight now. It will have a screw-in lens hood asap.
  • The bag is an old army bag, origin unknown. I adapted it to hold the kit, an iPad Mini, a Gossen LunaSix-3 and a few rolls of film.

  • Nikon FA. MD-12 motordrive.
  • 2.8/28mm Ais. Sharp and handy.
  • 2.0/135mm Ai. This lens is a portrait Godzilla. My avatar was shot with this lens wide open on my D700.
  • 1.8/50mm Ai. Sharp and handy.
  • Nikon F801 strap. Domke F-3X bag. SB-800 flash (used in 'Auto' mode it's perfectly compatible with the FA)

Tim,

check out the net for the Tamron Adaptall 2.5/135mm (03B code). It has a similar design (http://www.adaptall-2.org/lenses/03B.html vs http://allphotolenses.com/lenses/item/c_2615.html), is smaller and considerably cheaper, while the lower contrast can easily be boosted in software nowadays and CA reduced. Lightroom is my friend of choice when it comes to that kind of post-processing;)

Most recent Nikkor 2.0/135mm Ai that sold on eBay was EUR 300, that I could find. I gotta admit I got lucky and paid less than that last Spring.

Thanks Johan. The 135 f2 is one of my "someday" lenses. I've heard about them for years, and someday I'll own one.
 
I have never used my Nikons III underwater but when I need to shoot in bad weather, I rely on its waterproof watertight body that is capable of withstanding depths of 50 meters (160 feet).

I also rely on the 35mm wide-angle lens and the 80mm telephoto lens because both lenses can be used under and above water.

Somewhat battered SP with a Zeiss 35mm f3.5 on it. I made January into a Nikon Rf compatible 35mm lenses and shot my way through a variety of 35's and Rf bodies. Just another "project" with no particular reason - just for fun.

Lovely combo Tom, especially the lens. How do you like the 35mm Planar? (from the post-War Zeiss lenses I have only the Biogon 21mm)
