Its a Fed Zarya (Dawn ) with a 28mm f6 Orion-15 lens. The lens is very sharp, 4 elements in 4 groups, similar to Zeiss Topogon or the earlier Cooke Aviar. It was my first accessory lens for my Fed2, I bought the lens in Russia in the 1960's.
I later bought a coated Leitz f5.6 28mm Hektor, but the Orion was far sharper and much less prone to flare. So I sold the Hektor for a profit:angel: and kept the Orion.

hope this helps.
John.
Sadly the Orion is quite rare now, and consequently pricey especially in the uncoupled Contax/Kiev mount!!

Used to be 21 GBP circa '70.

Noel
Yup- thats right Noel, I have a TOE brochure all the lenses for the Fed/Zorki were about that price.
Mine cost me about 5 GBP in Russia because I paid for it in US dollars cash,
my Fed 2 (Still with me ) cost about 15GBP including a Leningrad meter, paid for the same way!!
I was on a school cruise to Leningrad, on the Devonia (I think that was the name of the boat.)
The last Orion I spotted on the web went for about 200 GBP:eek:
P.S. I have the Russian 28mm finder but it distorts badly, like looking through one of these security viewers with added frameline!

I was very cranky with that Iskra at the time and was considering melting it down and turning it into something useful ... a doorstop maybe? I have got over my angst now and have realised that there is no such thing as bad cameras ... only bad sellers who don't check cameras properly before they despatch them to the other side of the globe!

I rescued it from the KGB style interrogation before it started to scream! :D

Hello Keith,

I just saw a capitalist "Iskra" an Agfa automatic sold for $2,000+ on the big bay, so please stop interrogating your nice, way under-valued Iskra.:D

Hi Aurelius,

Would you be so kind to reveal what hood are you displaying here ?

Cheers,
Ruben

I'm pretty sure that's the standard VC hood that comes with the 35mm Ultron Ruben. :)

Hi Zhang,

I now have a replacement Iskra from 'Grizzly Bear' and it's a gem ... everything about it is better than the other camera which has gone back to Ukraine. I haven't put a roll of film through it yet but will be doing so soon.

They really are a very nice folding MF rangefinder with some excellent features ... they can keep their capitalist equipment ... I like the Iskra! :D

...It's probably really slow to use.. metering, focusing and composing separately... but looks mean! :)

So.. here's my new main (!) tool. 1968 Zorki 4.

All slr's resting in the shelf. I'm happy i've finally discovered

A book published in 1955 in Moscow said that Kiev is the latest Soviet camera, and is one of the world's best. Reading the article, you get the impression that the Kiev 3 is designed and developed in USSR, because in late 19th century, a Russian scientist invented the photo-cell that was used on the camera.:D I have a translated copy of this book. It is entiled "Youth Amertuer Photography".
