This Leica Standard (E) finally arrived - incredibly good cosmetic condition for being made in 1934. The lens was a separate purchase and is from 1939.
Have a roll of film in right now to test everything. Apparently Youxin Ye did a CLA last year.

This is the Leica IIIF Red Dial outfit I inherited from my father in 1995. Sat in storage until recently, lens and camera CLA’d by Youxin Ye earlier this year.

I am sorry, I have tried all day long to figure out how to upload a picture here. Nothing I tried works. I am ready to give up unless someone can enlighten me. I have Flickr.

Ah, yes, the iPad version of Flickr is probably different from desktop. However, you can take that link and add IMG tags around it. Basically add

at the end. I've done it here below, I think the image is small, but it works. Looks like you have a nice little kit, and a family heirloom at that! 🙂

Thank you for fixing that for me dourbalistar! And thanks for the nice comments about the outfit. The half case is actually something I made out of the old full case. The front was detached anyway, as they often are. Strap was rotten at the ends and broken off. Lining was in bad shape I re-lined it with the green felt you see, and treated the leather. It’s a very nice vintage looking half case now. I am using a modern Leica strap, and there is enough clearance in the case for me to use the strap lugs and case at the same time.

The camera was serviced by me (needed some oil and grease and the covering came loose, so I've put some glue under it) and has now a film loaded.

The wonderful indefinable colour of the vulcanite must be close to how it was 85 years ago. It appears like new, has always been in a case, apperently. But why then are there strap lugs?

The velvet of the case has caused some damage to the top plate. I have another camera like this one (a Leica III) with the same issue.

Note the pre-war strap and the nickel rings.

Referring to the picture of my outfit in the previous post, I would like someone to tell me if the add on plate in the front of the picture is a Leica accessory, an after market, or something homemade. It has no markings. It is well made, obviously machined, and fits onto the bottom plate of the IIIF perfectly. There is metal plate on the right side with a hole in it that mates with the unused metal button on the side of the camera. The other side is held in place by the tripod screw. The purpose of the plate seems to be to allow the camera to be mounted on a tripod in the middle rather than on the side. I imagine this would be advantageous if one were using a large heavy lens.

To dolah: I've never seen it before, if it was made by Leitz it would certainly be marked as such. However, I guess that it is a useful piece of gear.

They are made by someone else, I am pretty sure there is a Leitz version but think it is a bit different from yours, when I get to my reference books I will check.

In the second Leica book by Lager (red soft cover) there is something like it, but with the Leitz logo engraved. It is a stereo sliding bar. You mount your camera on it, and put the whole on a solid tripod. Then you make two exposures, one with the camera to the left and the other with the camera slided to the right. You'll need a stereo viewer to see the result in three dimensions.
