I have been shooting with a Leica IIIf and recently decided I wanted an old one. Fortunately my favorite dealer/repairman had this beauty on hand, recently CLAd both camera and lens plus new curtains. I've shot one roll and looking forward to more with it.

Totally usable again after replacing the beam-splitter. Unbelievable how big of a difference it made to the rangefinder image.

Okay, I've got to ask: where did you get the beam splitter from, and was it difficult to install? I've got a IIIf in permanent retirement due to a rangefinder that's so faint it might as well be a If instead. It'd be good to make it functional again!

Got it from the eBay links mentioned before.
The hardest part on these cameras is in my opinion the removal of the bezels around the range finder windows - but easily done when you have the proper tools.
The replacement of the beam splitter was actually very easy and done in about 1 hour time, max. The results are absolutely wonderful

Must be easier on a IIIc than on a III. I really had a hard time when I tried to get a Nobbysparrow replacement mirror into a III; finally I simply cleaned the original part which improved the rangefinder image a lot.

I have owned Olympus OM-1 and later OM-2n cameras since 1973, and have now joined the rangefinder club. Recently my sister called to say her close friend had quite a bit of camera equipment collecting dust since her husband passed away about 9 yrs ago. Long story short, this was in the grocery bag full of cameras/lens. Barnack IIIf RD ST that her husband purchased new back in 1955. She said he seldom used it, because he didn’t want to damage it. It was emotional for her to part with it. She wanted it to go to someone that would cherish it as much as he did, so she made me a deal that I couldn’t refuse. 1-owner camera, known history, how could I not buy it?? I’m stoked to have it, and 2 days later, boxed it and the Summicron 50 f2.0 up and sent it off to Youxin Ye for him to overhaul both. He said I should have it back in 2-3 months. Guess I’ll now have plenty of time to practice cutting long film leaders......

I don't know why that is, but you often find IIIg Leicas either in pristine or terrible condition. No in-betweens.....
