Show off your Leica I/II/III/LTM Camera
Ok, here's a Leica IIIF with a Leicavit, a 3.5cm/f3.5 Elmar with a 21mm screw-in skylight filter and a self-timer gadget...
Anyone want to sell a Leica case [for the Leicavit] with the cut-out on the bottom?

Hi Vince, I especially like the 'Mickey Mouse' lens (the Steinheil) which I have also in my collection. Do you have any background info on that lens (e.g. when was it made and for what camera)?
thanks

Newly arrived Summitar on my IIIf.
Just found out that the classic 12571 hood fits this set so much better than the "official" folding box of the Summitar.

Hi Pascal,
This one looks real nice... I can imagine it looks even better in a picture of 'normal size' ...

Hey Ron -- sorry for not having noticed your question sooner. That Steinheil lens on the Haber&Fink turret has been in my accumulation for about 20 years. I think I bought it at a camera show in Toronto for about $ 50.00 -- I'd suspect that it's late 1940's or early 1950's, judging by the finish of the lens, and its similarity to other Steinheil lenses I have for Exakta. It's a Leica screwmount, so I suppose it was meant for a Leica. I know that Steinheil made a camera called a Casca, but I don't think it had a Leica screwmount. Decent second tier lenses that aren't expensive (the ones for my Exaktas are awesome!), and the quality that comes out of this one is pretty good, though it's only a f/4.5 in speed. Plus, this is the only wide lens that I have which will work on the turret contraption.
My regards to the Netherlands....I hope to be living there soon!

He Vince, Thanks for youre responce. I only have seen this lens once, offered on *bay I believe by Arsenal. They had priced the lens at about Euro 400 so way to high. There is however a difference to our lenses: it had the inscription "Tower". If you look to Tower camera´s of the early fifties, they sometimes seem to be offered with Steinheil lenses: perhaps Steinheil had a deal with Sears who produced the Tower cameras.
Hope you will have a nice stay in the Netherlands: anyway let me know if you're going to live in or near The Hague, in that case we could easily meet some time.

Our hope is to be living in Dordrecht by mid 2009 (though there is that small matter of the job thing). I'm hoping to build my freelance photography business in the Netherlands, but am trying to assess the situation over there before dropping all that I've built over here and starting all over again in a new country. The other alternative would be a job with a company which would encompass my three areas of interest (Food, People, Architectural Interiors/Exteriors). Maybe a job with Royal Ahold????
As far as the lens goes, I'll check that out regarding Tower -- this is only one of a few non-Leitz lenses that I have for my screwmount Leica's.
I have a few Netherlands shots in my Critique Forum thread if you're intrested....
Thanks!

My Leica III
My Leica III
Here's my recently acquired III, nice and tidy, complete with Summar. All seems to work well, although preliminary results tend to show plenty of 'glow' (ie flare) Still for a camera dating from 1934 it's pretty sharp. And it still feels like a precision tool, crafted rather than constructed. It's with me all the time, and I'm finding the focussing good, better than a SLR under some circumstances. I know it's not the greatest picture ever, but hey I did use a DSLR for that!
Next purchase is a 35mm lens...

Here's a different level of weirdness.....Leica Standard C with a Hugo Meyer Megoflex made for the Standard.
The body has an old leather patch job at one end, but the outfit works well and is one way to transform a Leica into a focusing TLR.

IIRC, all Leica lenses were removable - they were only calibrated for one body though. The "ultimate" set was the body, plus 3 lenses RF, hood, etc, etc in a leather carry case. the lenses would be matched to the one body - often with the serial of the body (or, latterly, the last 3 digits) engraved on the lenses.
Super piece of kit Keith - makes me wish I had one to go with my II and Standard.

Hello, new guy here with Leicas to show...
Hello all
My name is Uwe Zankl, I live in Germany and I recently started to become very interested in 1930s-40s photography and filming, mainly because of my hobby, WWII re-enacting. Getting older now I thought that portraying a GI I can not do for ever and so I thought about first of all building a second impression that in a few years can become my primary...
I have always been attracked especially to the color footage and photos that were taken in those days, military or civilian.
So before Christmas, on a trip to Bastogne, I decided to kick off the new impression. When I got home I did a bit of shopping and so far ended up with two Leicas and four Bell&Howell movie cameras. ( Two are 4 sale again)
Here are the pictures of the Leicas:
IIIa 1936 with engraved name of a WWII US soldier and his service number, all working fine but may need CLA...don't know yet. Curtains are in super good shape
III from 1933 with a 1936 Summar (that is now on the IIIa since it fits better there)
all working but shutter speeds seem a bit slow and start to hang when I take it outside into sub 0 tempratures...needs CLA. Curtains are in super good shape
The thing about those beauties is that once you have one the fingers start iching to klick and buy more...let's see where that takes me.
cheers
Uwe
