That's a beautiful IIIf DJ....
Fantastic lens too, however I only speak from second hand info, haven't owned 1 yet.
Camera shots like your's make it hard to fight off the lust for a IIf or IIIf.
Enjoy the camera and hopefully share some shots!

I'm not sure if this link will work, but this is a quick shot I did of my Leica IIIf. The photo doesn't do it justice; I think it is exceedingly beautiful, by far the most beautiful camera model ever made. I'm very happy to have one.

Ah yes, that too.
When the little green and bug-eyed folks land and one mumbles 'take me to your dealer', I guess you'll be taking them my place, yes?

IIRC it's an accessory that was not manufactured by Leitz, but some unknown manufacturer. It sold mainly in the US it seems, since it's far more rare to find on a European camera.
Thanks for this information. I've see a couple more photos of cameras with the "shutter button guard" since I posted mine.

Pls be advised that this button guard also is standard on Russian Zorki rangefinders of a certain vintage, which are faked into 'Leicas' quite often.
The tell is either the rangefinder 'window pane' or the rangefinder cam inside the lens mount when you take the lens off: A Leica has a round wheel, while the Russian cameras (Zorkis and FEDs) have either a sharp triangular or a golf club shaped cam.
The opposite also happens: sooner or later someone will declare your authentic Leica a fake when spotting the button guard, mark my words...

This is my first post on this forum, though I have been lurking here for a while. This is a fantastic thread with all the Barnack beauties. Here is mine - a Leica 1 Model C with standardized mount, dated to 1931 by serial number. I've got the Barnack bug bad, and nothing but nickel on black enamel will do.

The shutter guard is actually a Leitz NY accessory and is feateured in Jim Lager's Leica book III accesories. There is also a soft release version with a spring loaded button. These WERE made By Leitz NY for the US market. The quality and finish is different from the Zorki ones.
Good to know. Thanks!

Nice. I knew about the finish being different than the Zorki part, I was under the impression they were Japanese-made.
Learn something new every day, thanks Stephen!

went to Tamarkin Camera my last trip to Chicago. Spent a long time talking all things Leica with Dan (what a wonderful way to spend some time) Walked out the new owner of this 1936 Leica III and SOOBI viewfinder. The camera has something I have never seen before, a aftermarket shutter speed dial. Dan said these were sometimes changed by people wanting to get a better grip on the dial.

The shutter dial is actually a part of the VACU add-on to allow the use of a flash gun on older LTM models. See below
