My favourite shooting kit this summer, with a gem that I found in Vancouver in May. It took me years to find this lens.

Very nice "static" display work Sir!

Thanks Tom, it doesn't make me any less jealous of your collection though
All the WW2 paperwork arrived the same week as the camera. I don't have any studio lighting to make it look better unfortunately.
I've got a SBOOI on the camera now, looks really sweet and I'm still busy running a roll through it to see if it works the way it should.

I bought it a week ago - the lens is in great condition indeed and as far as I feel the camera all works great. Will process the first test roll tomorrow. I presume it is a IIIa by the serial number but could be IIIf as you suggesting![]()
This is my first leica. May be you guys will help me to identify the model better? Here's two more shots in case somebody can help
Regards,
b.
Yes originally a 1935 III, factory converted to IIIf in the ?1950s (flash syncronised). Note the engraving DBP & GMBH, these are post Third Reich. In 1935 the engraving would have been DRP. Leitz offered upgrades to their older models and many were brought up to the then current specifications. It shows the quality of the construction of these old cameras.

I couldn't resist. My quest for the ultimate M2 ended in grabbing a good deal on ebay on a Rolleiflex 2.8F and now a Leica IIIG with 50 Elmar f2.8 and a Leciavit!!!
Can't wait to cut my TriX lead and load some to shoot my first roll.

Does anyone know how rare/easy to get a II with strap lugs?? I assume they are retrofitted by Leitz/technical at some point?

Does someone know whether it is possible to get a lens painted black along with repainting a IIIf body? I think I saw this from a japanese shop once.
Anybody figure out how to use a standard or II with a neck strap? I hate wrist straps and hate cases with straps.

Send it to your favourite repairman and have the IIIc lugs fitted, if you must. Alternatively, find a donor shell from a later camera - I had a late production II that had blanking screws, fitted by the factory, where the III shell they used should have had lugs.

Leica III with a CV 21mm Color Skopar and 21/25mm metal CV finder. And a ton of rebadged Tri-X.

On the left is a Zorki 1b (1949 to 1951) that had it's broken rangefinder removed. I just picked up the 1935 Leica Standard on the right. I was going to send it off to Youxin Ye but he's in China. The shutter looked and sound good so I put some film in it so see what it will do until Youxin returns. What delightful cameras! More pictures: Two Standards

I have one of those straps - actually came with a Canon IVSb, but I think it's Leica. Don't know the period though...
Man, I so want a standard, but the lack of strap lugs makes me never buy one...

Who needs lugs? (No insult intended to the Leica Users Group)
