Eric,
A very nice find. I have only ever seen one before and that was permanently attached to an early standardised camera, with a flip over mask for 50mm....or was that something different?

Michael,
I only know about early Standard models ("model C") with flip over masks for 135mm.

... a batch of Standard (Model E) fitted with the Weisu had already been produced serial nos. 165301- 165500 (200 cameras ...
This information is new to me. Thank you, Pan F. Do you know if any pictures of this camera exist?
Erik.

Eric,
I do know that a Leica Standard (Model E) with the original fixed Weisu finder from this batch was auctioned within the last 2-3 years on Ebay.UK
This may have been where I saw it, but with my memory...
With the lettering down the side it looked odd attached to a 'I'. Not 'designed'. I assumed that it was some sort of modification and not done at the factory.
Interesting stuff.

Eric,
From memory I think that P.H.van Hasbroeck's tome "Leica: A History Illustrating Every Model and Accessory" has some information about this subject.
Yes, I found it, on page 209: "A small batch of black Leica Standards were equipped with black, permanently attached Weisus instead of 50mm viewfinders", but sadly there is no picture of those. Van Hasbroeck suggests that these cameras were a trial batch for the never commercially produced Snapshot Leica. (1935)
Thank you, Pan F, you have a good memory!
Erik.

Very nice shots from that un coated Elmar 3.5cm Eric!
I'm going to take a look at a 3.5 Elmar this Friday and hope to make a purchase if its a nice one.
My I to IIIa sync conversion has come back from Malcolm Taylor and I would like to try one of these lenses on it!
Fingers crossed!

They're nice lenses, if not fogged. Uncoated lenses can be cleaned quite easily, when the repairman succeeds in opening them.
Is the one you're going to look at chrome or nickel?
Erik.

Simon,
Great when it is not fogged. Must be the "thick cam" variation (infinity lock @ 11 o'clock).
Mine has number 144479, also from 1932, also thick cam.

Such a nickel Summar is a beautiful lens.
A clean one would be one of my last desires in LTM.

This setup became my daily user in the last half year.
Usually I choose the Canon if documentation is the main aspect, the Tanar (a Sonnar-clone) for more experimental/funny things.
I know, nothing for Leica-purists... but works fine for me.
