Simply stunning. I came along in 59:D Was 55 the last year for the Barnacks?

I rather like it. With the SBOOI is quite a pleasure to shoot, and I really lucked out with the 'Cron. Very clean and sharp. Entirely usable for anything. Not exactly pocketable, though, so not in the true spirit of the Barnack.

Oskar Barnack, before the construction of the UR Leica, experimented with a small camera using 35 film. Leitz still owns this device, it is not understood. George Mann covered it extensively n VIDOM 50. Using this information, I built two of these. It orients vertically and the slide acts a shutter when flicked upwards. Yes, it works.

And a bit later, a pair of Working UR Leica Replicas. One has the 42mm summar, the other has a 1911 production Zeiss Kino Tessar F 3.5 50. Both function perfectly and take Great images.

Leitz replicas made about 1970. The one on the left was modified by Mr Kim in Seoul, the one on the right I rebuilt myself.

The fire truck shot is taken with UR Leica #9, with the Zeiss Tessar. This was the original lens used by Barnack on both his cine camera and the first tests with the UR. The second shot is with UR Leica #80, using the 6 element Leitz 42mm Mikro Summar. This was the lens used by Barnack for most of his UR shots. The famous Eisenmarket image was taken with the 42mm.

Thanks, Ambro, for sharing these with us. The Mikro Summar seems to be a tad sharper. On that shot the exposure seems to be a tad more even too.

What kind of shutter do these cameras have? Focal plane, of course ... but then? Can the slit be altered?

Leica should introduce a Mikro Summar 42mm for the modern user!

Erik.

Both camera have an 8mm wide fixed slit. The lens is capped while winding on. As built, as an Attrape non-working display, much inside needs to be changed, production variations sometimes make this difficult. The supplied lens is useless, the shutter supplied doesn’t cover right....but with perseverance, or $$$$ to Mr Kim, the camera Leitz built as a display can actually function exactly the same as it did for Barnack. I really like it, small and very pocketable, it took me a few rolls to “have faith” in it but lots of good negs proved they can do the job.~~~~~~~~ actually, shutter speeds on #80 (mr kim) the speed adjuster Barnack used is functional and gives approx 1/200 and 1/300 speeds. #9 has one speed , about 1/250.
