Just seen on eBay, do you think a bit of oil and a new covering from Aki-Asahi would do the job? I'm a bit worried though as it doesn't say if the take up spool is present.

The news is that someone bought it! It was up at 99 euros and I offered 30 euros as I had seed that the speed knob was a pre-III one and I could probably salvage that and some contemporary screws etc. It was in France so only 5€ postage; however, someone obviously bid higher.

You should congratulate yourself on your failure to buy it! I doubt you would be able to get bits off without wrecking them in the process. If the shaft that the speed dial is attached to has swollen with rust etc...

Yes, but that lens is a little late to be emitting its own particles. Still makes those solar particles look very purdy! In fact, that whole camera is quite lovely.

I popped into my favourite camera store just on the off-chance they may have something of intrest. Short discussion and a 1953 Leica 111f was produced. It has just been serviced and except for a damaged plastic eyepiece it looked and sounded good. Whilst I was having a good look at it I am sure it said to me please take me home with you. It was surprising how good it's English was.

I finally had to replace mine about a year ago, and these are an absolutely perfect replacement. You can't tell the difference.
Which camera store in the Midlands did you get this from, out of interest? Lovely find!

You mean not functional for now I hope! I consider the IIc the most repairable Barnack!* Good mechanism, no frills!
*Ok pre-war is possibly easier to repair but precision is more difficult to achieve.

Yes, but a non-working Barnack is a tragedy. I love my IIIf. In truth, I've shot way more travel photography with it than I have either my Ms or my Nikon SLRs. It's such a terrific little form factor and - with more modern glass like the Color Skopars - it's capable of first class results. My only regret is ever selling my collapsible Summicron in LTM ...

Both curtains have deteriorated to a see-through state and the camera feels like an office shredder when advancing the film.
I got it 16-17 years ago for £300 and worked well for a decade or so and has been sitting on a shelf since.

That's a quite reasonable repair here in the US, but I've no idea what the UK situation would be. I do know that DAG Camera Repair (Don Goldberg) does do international repairs on Leica, but I've no idea what the mechanics or timing would be.
