Here's my same old Leica III (F) camera - BUT with a new Elmar 50/2.8 lens on it. Courtesy Memphis as this was the price he so kindly provided for the June Salon competition :)

Mr. Belew,

The combination of the IIIF, Summar and hood (SOOMP) is nice. I don't remember where I got the strap, but I think it is original with one of my LTMs. The Summar is new to me. Haven't even processed the first roll of film, so I'm anxious to see how it works.

Here is my new Leica IIf (from Ergo) returned from an Oleg cla. Simple and handsome, I think.

That's a beauty Frank! I should send a couple of my cameras to Oleg for a spruce up, but I don't want to spend any time worrying that they might not return while they are holidaying at a FSU health spa.

Does anyone have a tattered ever ready case in their junk drawer that would fit this camera? Just need the lower half. Don't need the top/front flap or the strap. Case for IIIc or IIIf would work.

I got one of these, and well, it works okay-ish for my 90, but it lives mostly in the box of assorted things that looked fine but...

The camera you got looks wonderful!

Really, it just happened to be on the table when I took the shot. The lens is the Snapshot Skopar, which is great when you have trouble using the small r/f window with your bifocals, like this old fart.

The snapshot looks great.

As I think of it as my next lens for my IIf I have two questions.
1. Is that the original hood?
2. Is the viewfinder blocking the shutter speed dial?

So, I have been thinking, does a IIIc have a flash socket in on the back near the VF/RF windows?
 
I was just looking, the serial number does put it as a IIIc from 1946ish. It could be a conversion.
 
Just been trying out an Olympus XA - nice camera, but I'm pushing the limits of its close range here. I think I'll try and repeat with individual pictures using a Yashica SLR.
It all started with guilt feelings over selling my late father's 1A for peanuts 30 years ago (my mother still tells of her infuriation over time spent loading the Leica, after first loading metal cassettes in the broom cupboard).
I like the look and feel of these black and nickel of these models, but confess that I only use the II for taking pictures - I like the built-in rangefinder, and feel that the flash socket added to the front of the camera later makes it less of a cabinet model and more of a shooter.

If your IIIc has just one flash connector, and it's a standard PC connector, it's an aftermarket flash sync. If it has two connectors, an extra ring around the shutter speed, and they are the oddball Leitz contacts, then it is a IIIf, probably factory upgrade.

There are even III to IIIf upgrades done by Leica.

I think you will find that the twin Leitz contacts were a feature of the M series. The factory IIIf, and presumably the works conversions, had a single PC socket. The dial under the speed dial gives variable flash timing and eliminates the need for separate electronic/bulb flash sockets.
