I secretly have always thought the Nikon Rf cameras looked badass. Tough and functional. Never owned one but man oh man, that awakens my long dormant GAS.
How functional are the Nikon Rf versus say an M3/2/4?
alfredian pretty much covered it. They're certainly tough cameras.
At the request of Jon, I post some pictures of EL Nikkor 50mm F2.8 here. Chrome mount part is from Helios-103 53mm F1.8. We are so lucky to get a cheap mount part from Russian lenses!
Also I tested this lens to compare with Millennium Nikkor-S 50mm F1.4. It is very simple test but anyone interested, please check the below link.

Thanks for those photos, Park. That's a very nice conversion job. And judging from the test shot the lens performs quite well too.

Man, I want this BADLY! Can't take my eyes off from this gemstone.
Looks like you are using CV 21/25 metal finder. it's the most useful item for one who use 21mm and 25mm both.

Yep, a CV 21/25 metal finder. Really good finder!

fully agree, the S2 is my favourite camera to shoot 50mm (prefer it slightly over the M3 which I also love)

It's been a while, a long while but they're back. Viewfinder clean, in particular the SP which had the haze from gassing, and capping shutters. Nothing dramatic just on 500th a touch and visible on 1,000 but if you know it's there!!
Looking good and ready for test rolls.

This combo seems to be made for each other. I know the Zeiss lens is supposed to back focus a little at closer distances on the Nikon body, but if it is I'm not seeing it in the photos.

Sadly the S2 is no longer with me. I sold it to help pay for the S3.

You may regret it before it's gone for long... especially if you sold the black Nikkor-H alongside with the camera body. This humble little standard lens may be the best bang for the bucks one could get as for a 50mm Nikon RF shell... since I got mine, my Millenium Nikkor 50/1.4 has been staying in a box most of the time...Sadly the S2 is no longer with me. I sold it to help pay for the S3.

When I'm looking at that camera I still don't get why the S2 is not THE cult camera of this era. A masterpiece of design.

Yes. And with that beautifully engraved N i k o n and the quarter-of-moon shaped upper front plate end, directly inherited from the prewar Contax II Bauhaus style...When I'm looking at that camera I still don't get why the S2 is not THE cult camera of this era. A masterpiece of design.

Yes, but the S2 improves upon the Contax II, the design is more balanced and elegant.
