For someone not wearing glasses, the whole frame of the S2 viewfinder (outside the etched 50mm framelines) approx. equals what a 35mm lens will capture, so you can use the camera without a 35mm viewfinder from time to time, it kinda works out.

my other nikon rf is and SP, so the case goes well there too,

i used a vc minifinder for a while, but then i also noticed the full s2 finder is fine for me for for 35.

Thanks, Shac. An upgraded 3.5 came today, the replacement 5.0 comes tomorrow, and a 10.5 and 13.5 are on their way. That should hold me for a while.

I have pretty much the same lens focal length apart from an 85/2 instead on the 105.

The 85/2 was the first lens I got, came in a box lot early last year. Then I got the 35/3.5 in the fall, and was using it on a Contax IIa while waiting to get an S2. The 50/1.4 is to replace the 50/2 that came with the camera, because it has a bit of separation. Likely it's still usable, but I'll have to film check it first.

TomA convinced me the 35/2.5 would be a good improvement over the 3.5, and that the 105/2.5 would be a nice addition. I could have waited a while to get the 105, but after looking at what was available I didn't think I could do any better on price, so I bought one last night after considering a dozen others. At least it has the proper caps and hood. I found out some versions of the 105 had a bayonet hood which is hard to come by, so I steered clear of them.

Here's my SP.

I've owned F bodies for nearly two decades but only recently did the SP find it's way into my bag. Other than the slightly dim RF patch, it's a camera I really enjoy using.

got my first nikon RF (SP) and put a couple of rolls through it. it was a definite beater but i think i cleaned enough to put it back into service. It blew me away when I held it for the first time and advanced the film lever. When I picked up a canon P for the first time it didn't give me the same impression of quality that the Nikon did.

I could never find a pic of the Nikon SP with the top off (although it should be similar to an S3.)

The SP was in rough shape. The patch was barely there and the mini 28/35 finder was full of haze and even a speck of fungus was found in between the eye piece and the optics. (the hardest to get at)

I opened her up to give it a clean through the front window, and then did some research for how to take off the top plate (thanks Jon!) to get at the nasty fungus in the eye piece.

There is still haze but it is much more usable. I made sure to get rid of the black spots too in the mini finder from the deterioration of the foam.

the nikkor 5cm has sticky aperture blades and that will be my next target for cleaning.

First of all, congrats on the SP! And for being brave enough to open her up and clean the finder yourself.

Regarding that eyepiece, its actually very easy to remove. You just have to remove the two visible screws (one on either side of the eyepiece) and the two screws (one in either side of the eyepiece) hidden by the leatherette. You just have to peel back a small portion of the leatherette on either side of the eyepiece to reveal the screw heads.

In comparison to removing the top plate and cleaning the finder, cleaning up the Nikkor-S 50/1.4 will be a piece of cake!

Thanks again Jon, your instructions in other threads were super valuable. For the eyepiece, it should be three screws i believe: two visible ones and a hidden one by the leatherette. I removed the plastic eyepiece mask in the picture, but there was a further magnifier glass piece for the mini finder that I couldn't remove 100% behind that one.

For that one, there were two screws that kept it on. I had to remove the top screw and (scarily enough) bend the metal bit out of the way to get at the fungus. the bottom screw was obscured by the camera chassis and I didn't want to remove the frame mask selector on top.
