Hey, I love these show-off threads! Well, here's my current M8 setup 🙂 (I posted this in the "Let's see your Leica M" thread earlier.)

I have seen a number of you subdue the logos. What was your technique on the chrome body? The gray logo is also an nice touch. Method for that?

The paint in the "M8" logo started flaking off on its own, so I completed the process with a sharpened chopstick...the logo I twisted off, then rubbed off the paint with a bit of citrus stripper, then stuck back on with a dab of silicone glue. I scratched the metal on the logo a bit, though, so I'd like to get a fresh red dot to try again with. I do prefer a camera that presents a subdued face to the world: the classic Leica shape is more than sufficient to announce itself. (case in point: even with the logo of my M9 gaffer-taped, two people in the last hour have said to me, "Is that a Leica M9?" But I live in a very nerdy town.)

Yes, I have started stripping the paint off of my M8. I hated how slick, smooth, and non aging the original paint was. I love the feeling of metal on my hands.

Do you refer to the chrome M8 specially? My 50+ yo chrome M3 looks near mint AFAIK.

I have two chrome Nikon SP's that look new. The titanium curtains also look new. I keep them in cases, they get used.

Somehow I do not mind wear on the M8, and even M9, as much as I do the film cameras.

Digital "gets so old, so fast"- that using it until it wears is reassuring that it was the right thing to get. My oldest digital SLR camera is 18, still works. The oldest Nikon DSLR is 14 years old, still works. The Black finish on these two really held up.
