On Friday I purchased the Canon Magnifier at a thrift store, without having a classic Canon SLR to put it on.
Later the same day this AE-1 was on Kijiji and I scooped it up. Needs a bit of a clean, but otherwise looks great.

Looks like a sweet camera, in black. I guess it is an acquired taste with the unusual focus screen - somewhat like a rangefinder patch?

Fraser--I have an EOS RT Serial No.2433... My shutter fires normally with or without a lens attached. Maybe your shutter IS faulty??? Early version vs. late version? U.S. version vs.
European version? How you're holding your mouth? Maybe we can get some international intrigue going!

Well if you mean unusual as in there is no split rangefinder than yes, it's different to most SLR screens, the micro prism center snaps into focus sort of speak and works well. It makes for a very clean, bright viewfinder!

Fraser--Thanks for the reply. Seems our serial numbers are quite close together.
I wondered about the "How you hold your mouth" comment, but I included it anyway.
I guess it's not universal. Anyway, if someone is having difficulty doing something or getting something to work properly you might make the comment "You've got to hold your mouth right". It is not a serious comment or to be taken literally.

Yes, that's what I meant - I've never even seen one of these in real life.
I admit to being curious about these and the SL, but since I already have three systems (Nikon, Olympus and a shelf queen Minolta Dynax) I am not so sure I need to go down that rabbit hole too.

How about an ugly duckling:

Ugly ... but it´s an iconic camera. A workhorse for professional photographers who could not buy a Hasselblad and had to save film. Wedding photography owes a lot to that camera. Even guys who were doing advertizing would use it. If i had to mention an iconic professional photography camera i would mention the Mamyia 645.

Thanks Paul, it was quite pleasant shooting it. Film is in the developing tank, hopefully I will develop it tonight and see what this puppy is capable of.

How the Soviets made the perfect evolution of the Leica II to a SLR that nobody in the west managed to do... And way before the Nikon F!!
A KMZ Zenit-S from 1958, the evolution of the original 1952 Zenit just with flash synchro. It's beautifully engraved as made in the USSR in the back.
