That was the 43mm - 75mm lens. Not a bad lens really. The concept apparently wasn't too bad. Others copied the idea, including Nikon. I don't recall who else did. It was touted as a very useful set of focal lengths in the photo magazines. Zooms not of course cover more.

Yashica also offered a kit zoom with that focal length, I recently bought an FX-7 with one. I had an AZ-1 with the short zoom, I sold it in the classifieds here a couple of years ago. It had one of the best viewfinders that I have seen. And the EBC Fujinon lenses have a stellar reputation.
 
I admit to loading quite a few SLR photos lately (perhaps too many). Reflecting on that, I had to laugh when I thought to myself that my wife (who is generally very understanding of my film photography quirks) would not see any difference between any of the cameras pictured. To her, there are at most 2 kinds of cameras: chrome ones and black ones. Unfortunately, I'm just as hopeless when she explains the many differences between various white blouses, or 2" pumps, or lipsticks (aren't they all either just pink or red?).

I have bought it at a flea market for 1 euro, and it works. Now I am looking forward to get it covered and use it with non expired film.

When this camera arrived it was very dirty and covered all over with sticky and dried gaffer tape residues. I was afraid to touch it without gloves. After some cleaning, I was able to shoot a test roll and it functioned beautifully.

Have you any idea about the history of your Nikon? The reason I ask is that I have an equally ugly F with sports finder that has similar yellow paint under the black paint. Who painted all their cameras yellow? The sports finder on mine is permanently fixed on so it was probably used for some application where that would be of use.
 
The yellow is the undercoat applied before the final top coat of black lacquer. I've seen quite a few F's with the yellow showing. I think the later bodies lacked the undercoat...?

i think you're right. my early F shows a bit of yellow, too. i kinda like it.

Thanks. That makes sense. My F is quite an early one. I just hadn't seen another F with the yellow showing through.

I'm also curious about the history of this Nikon F. It was really a mess when I got it. I posted the pictures after I cleaned it. The back and bottom plate was salvaged from another black F, Because of the tape residues and some pieces of gaffer tape left at the back, I think it was used as a remote controlled camera somewhere but it didn't come with a motor drive. Yes, there are some yellow paint underneath the black. Thank you for your interest. 🙂
