Also when you look close up from the rear into a strong light?

Usually you will see haze between the elements and scratches on the front lens (sometimes also on the rear).

For some reason the uncoated nickel Elmars on my Leica IA cameras are in a better condition than my interchangeable ones. Probably because they are fixed on the cameras.

Haze between the elements can be removed but scratches are another story.

This is much sharper than it appears online. This is one of the first shots taken with a Leica by me. The camera was a gift from a co-worker. (It was one of several IIIs and I'm trying to decide which to have CLA'd---one was DOA and another a Tower has shutter issues at slower speeds).

But, I admit I now get the love for a Leica.
