Hi guys,

yesterday there came up a problem with the shutter of my M4. Everytime when I want to cock the shutter with the advance lever it fires the shutter when short before the end point, without pushing the button. I switch the lever to the front side and click, the shutter fires.
I had that several months ago, but was able to fix it by fiddling on the internal spool with the teeth which holds the film in place (the black spool left of the take up spool).

Did you ever have this? How can one fix it? Or do I have to go to the repair man (again, after a fault with the advane lever)?

After a bit more than a year of usage, it seems that this M4 body is real pain in the arse... 🙁😡

No clue, the advance lever fault was repaired and it all went fine until yesterday. :bang:

*edito*: I had this shutter fault one time back last year, but managed it to be good then. But don't ask me how or what it was. I just fumbled on the spool that advances the film to the take-up spool.

some random guesses:
is there something wrong with the shutter release? is it jammed... check under the plate under the base plate perhaps...

self timer?

uhh, I have no idea here. something loose inside, prapse?

good luck...

Florian, send it back to the repair man. It's probably related to the earlier problem. Unless it was a severely damaged camera, which seems unlikely without your repair man noticing it the first time he had the camera, an M shouldn't break so soon after a professional fix.

Kevin, thanks for expressing sympathies - much appreciated!

Living on a budget is even worse in such situations, simply because I had to spend nearly 1000 bucks (US$ /699€) on a new computer last month and already put 200 $ into the camera at the "hospital". 🙁

thats really sad thing - i had the same thing on my zorki 4 few years ago. i tried to find out what was with it and reassembled it partly - but i didnt manage to see problem. that means you probably have to send it to service - its better than to make hings worse with self repair. did they give you guarantee for last repair? also was that official leica service? maybe you can try some official leica repairman - i dont know the prices though. i just hope that when they repair it - you wont have any problems for many years with it...

it is totally off topic - but i never asked you - how do you like your biogon? also have you tried to compare it with jupiter 12. it would be really interesting to see differences between two biogons - how much things changed in 60 years...

Well, Srdjan (hope I spelled it correctly), the Biogon is really good so far. Quite sharp already wide open and with really good contrast. It surely is a bit bigger than the asph summicron 35, but that does not bother me at all.
I use it with the hood on all the time and with an uv filter for protection of the front lens. See my flickr site for photos with it, scanned with the Epson V500 (I'd love to get a Coolscan, but that beasts are too expensive for me right now🙄).

In comparison to the Jupiter-12 the ZM Biogon 2/35 is more sharp overall, over the field, it is more "clear" I'd say. And it has more contrast. I did not get it to flare yet - one of the small problems with the not modern coated Jupiter lens.

i watch your stream frequently - and it is very interesting style you have. i dont know how to explain - it is totally different compared to what i try to make - that is maybe why it is interesting to me. you somehow capture life as it is - in its raw form.it would be very interesting in few years when you will have thousands of photos - like you made a time capsule of your surrounding.

Well, I'm into what Rober Lebeck calls "direkte Fotografie"/direct photography, without alteration or so. But I try more to be humanistic these days and do my own thing.
Could be that I'm influenced by Suau's photos about the crisis these days very much.

I hope it will get quick and not that expensive on monday - fingers crossed...

What do you try to do with photography?

What do you try to do with photography?

i dont know exactly - two things are main i think.
first i like to take a photo in moments when i feel nice - i dont even need to print those - i have that moment in my brain after that.
second i like to find some abandoned and forgotten places which will probably vanish in next few years or decades. i think that from same reason i like old cameras - i like stuff that were used a lot in past and now nobody cares about them - i love to keep them alive...
