Dear all,

As I am considering to purchase a new R3a/R3a, there is something I need to clarify. Is the R2a/ R3a just like the Nikon Fm3a where they can operate without any batteries? I know it is an aperture priority rangefinder but can it be use in manual mode when the batteries die off?

Kindly advise.

Many Thanks in Advance.

The shutter of R2A/R3A require battery to operate. There is no manual backup if battery is flat.

They aren't battery sapping bodies, most will go for 40-50 rolls on average before requiring replacement. Not too hard to pack an extra set of L44 batteries since they're so tiny.

Thanks for all the replies. So my next question , is there a rangefinder out there that is just like the nikon fm3a which has a hydrid shutter that operates in AE and mechanical manual mode when battries are frozen and out?

Many thanks again... You guys are great!!!

Not sure about the new Ikon but like aizan said, the M7 has 2 mechanical speeds.

Fyi, the AE mode is a relatively new feature on RF cams, only the M7, R2a/R3a and the new Ikon features AE.
