Sigma DP2

At any rate... The DP2 should be seen as a counterpart
to the DP1. It will not replace the 1, just provide
a different reach from the same perspective.

Photography is about the image. Cameras/process is about
the image maker. Luckily, we all differ in camera/process
otherwise, it would be boring.

Enjoy your camera and enjoy your process.....

Back to the topic at hand, I'm looking forward to seeing whether Sigma can sort out the shortcomings of the DP1. If the responsiveness is brought up to a reasonable standard I think they'll have a winner.

I agree. They've got that big ol' sensor, if they can speed up operating times and improve IQ, it'll be a great camera, the one a lot of us have been waiting on. For now, it's the LX3 or G10 for me.

I was put off the DP1 because of all the complaints about noise, although I never used one myself. Is there anything to indicate noise might be improved in the DP2? A 42mm efl would be nearly ideal for my style of shooting.

according to Bill (earlier in this thread) there's a new image processing engine. so there's hope!

I've posted many times before on the DP1/Foveon and a big fan of Carl's work.

Here's some more "pushed" iso1600 from the DP1. More on my Flickr - tagged as DP1 http://flickr.com/photos/glass_and_tubes/tags/dp1/

Isn't the PMA show in a month? There might finally be some APS-sensor compacts introduced. Somebody ought to mention that a rangefinder mechanism would be an ideal way to create a compact body (better than say, an electronic viewfinder).

Having a 40mm disqualifies it for my use however fast or bettered... I love the 28mm.
Interested though in the updated DP-1 ... if it comes that is

I'm thinking that maybe a few firmware updates might come along for the DP1 but not anything else. The DP2 will fit me just fine......if it has a viewfinder available....with those 2, it's sweet.....oh and of course the gX200......

I didn't I would but the 28mm is sweet. A faster DP1 would be grand - free firmware would be dream come true!

ps - make sure you get the Sandisk Extreme III 30m/s card for the DP1. It's worth the money.

I do not think it is 'too sharp'. I'm not even sure that is possible.

Well, in-camera JPEG processing might result in overly "sharp" results, but that's different from saying the sensor (Foveon) is too sharp. Howerver, RAW output from the sensor is probably a lot better than most small-sensor compacts--if comparing against those. How or why that would be a negative is not clear to me.

I had to restrain myself from making that same (in bold) comment. The thought occurs to me that when people are determined to hate something, they'll find a reason. Quality too low, quality too high. Not sharp enough, too sharp. It's always something. As my dad used to say, "He'd bitch if he was hanged with a new rope!"

However, FA Limited may not have meant it that way. Benefit of the doubt.

It has a manual focus wheel and also a readout on the LCD that can be set to feet or meters.

Don't know what the G10 has, but the DP1 has a wheel which is marked in meters as well as a scale which pops up on the screen which shows the focus distance as a red dot along a scale, marked in both meters and feet (latest firmware added feet to the scale).

I just bought a second one which is going to undergo an attempted IR conversion this weekend... I think it's an awesome little camera.
