Now we have some real class in the ranks and a feminine perspective of foveon heaven.

My advice ... please be patient with your Merrill and give it a chance to grow on you and with you. Several weeks after I got my DP2M I was struggling to get results I was happy with then suddenly it all seemed to fall into place. Now we understand each other much better and the little Sigma is teaching me to take my time and learn her ways.

By the way ... will yours be a boy or a girl? 😛

I'm leaning towards the dp3m as I think the camera works best for still scenes, and the 75pov is suitable for portraits and the pseudo macro ability may be useful. I don't know how well it'll fair as a street camera even with the wide angle on the dp1m . My current main camera is a older micro four third ep3. The sensor is really poor for higher ISO, and my main concern is if i get the dpm series, I still don't have a good higher ISO tool. I tried to improve things by getting a fast 1.4 pana Leica 25mm but there are times (albeit limited) where I really need to bump up the ISO.

If u don't mind b&w (monochrom) mode, I think u will be pleasantly surprised at the iso 1600 results. They may not be as good as the Fuji xp1 or x100s, but they are good.

Your ep3, if I remember correctly was good up to 800 and ok at 1600. If that is the case, then the real difference is about a stop. But since this is a leaf shutter, u can handhold a bit slower....if we were talking the dp2m (closest equiv lens to the 25f1.4). On the other hand, the sensor on the omd can do iso 3200.

If u need a high iso tool, a lot depends on how high. Nothing beats the new full frame sensor for both highest iso and dynamic range such as Sony rx1..

My preferred high iso tool is the Fuji xp1/xe1. It will do iso 3200 easy. Plus I can use old manual lenses like canon rf 50f1.2 or Cv 50f1.1, if I need a little extra speed.. Same an be said about the omd.

With all that said, I find these days that the cameras w/ foveon sensors from the Merrill series is what I use a lot.. Right now between 40-50%.

Just ordered a DP2m from CRKennedy, it was only a matter of time before I folded,damn you all!

I loved my SD15, should never have sold it, hopefully the DP2 will fill it's shoes.

I am shifting away from Bayer sensor cameras. It started with the Fuji XP1 and now with the Sigma Merrill cameras. The only time I use my MFT or Canon 5D Mark II is when I lack a particular focal length in the other cameras (which is becoming increasingly rare). I use my Leica M8 exclusively as an IR camera.

I've been following the threads on the Dp2M with interest. I've been thinking seriously about purchasing a DP2M or DP3m while the special pricing is in effect. The images of the DP3M on flickr are really amazing, have any of you used both cameras? Besides focal length and macro, is there a difference in rendering? The portraits posted a couple of weeks ago in RF forum were also incredible, too. How difficult is the software that comes with the camera, is it hard to transfer into Lightroom?
Advice is welcome!

I'm personally torn between getting a DP3M to compliment my DP2M or the SD1M ... I'd actually quite like to have all three DPMs but carrying three fixed lens cameras around ... seriously! 😀

If you go through the foveon image thread I think you'll find there's a fair bit of chat about the alternate cameras and software/shooting issues etc ... when you're there just ask!

I hung around that thread for quite a while asking questions before I made the decision to buy into foveon power! Gary who started the thread has at least two DPMs from memory and someone else has all three ... and the DSLR (SD1M).

I see you're reasonably new around here ... welcome to the forum. 🙂

A way to figure out dp2 or dp3 is to go back and look at your past pictures... Of the ones u think are good, try to remember the focal length u used for most of those shots. Then ask yourself is this really a comfortable focal length for the type of shots I intend to use w/ this camera?

Spp is sigma raw processing software. It is actually pretty good piece of sw once u get over the learning curve. One of the threads I started maybe a couple of days ago had a video tutorial on monochrom.

The main purpose of spp is to create a tiff file tat u can import into your favorite photo editor for more interesting work.

I was away for the past few days in Perigord. Nice to see the interest perking up a bit!

Darya, the differences in rendering are really so slight that other factors will/should determine your choice. If you're interested in stitching, the DP3M is probably the best choice; the DP1M is the least suitable, because of slight unsharpness in the corners.

CR Kennedy, who are actually the Sigma web shop, are a little slow IMO.

Since paying for the camera last Thursday via paypal there has been nothing from them aside from the confirmation of order and payment that I received via email immediately after the payment. At this stage I don't know whether the camera is in transit or if they even actually have the stock?

I may have to email them to find out what is happening because hanging around the house just in case a delivery driver turns up is driving me insane! 😀
