Other Areas Singapore and Malaysia RF Club

The Camera Hospital along Selegie road is probably the best place for a CLA. The other places mentioned do only so-so CLA jobs and I wouldn't trust my cams with them.

Ruby does have the best film prices in town.

All caps accounted for. Whew, glad I managed to get rid of them, been occupying my studio shelf for the longest time.

Alan, for a serious Leica CLA, I would still send the M3 to DAG. Postage costs aren't that high and the standard of servicing would surpass any of the local workshops. I've sent a M4-2 and M4-P over and they came back in superb condition. Drawback is of course the long turnaround. DAG typically takes a month for domestic orders, longer for international given the additional shipping times. But, you get what you pay for.

Club? This thread is hardly an exclusive club!

Hope the weather's improved in London, I was ill for the 2 weeks I was there... real waste of a vacation really.

How much does Ruby sell Trix for? Tks!

Thanks Terence. I'll give the Camera Hospital a go first and see how that works out. I've been in touch with DAG a few times but I can't really justify the price and the long waits.

How much are CLAs typically for Leicas at the Camera Hospital?

I can't say for sure as I haven't sent anything there personally. From the feedback I've been getting back from folks, most seem to be of the opinion that Camera Hospital does the best job around town. I've heard costs varying from $100-$300 depending on the amount of work done.

Hi All,

I will be hosting my first solo show in June as part of Month of Photography 2006. The event is organised by the French Embassy and the Alliance Francaise. There are 3 different elements to MOP, I will be exhibiting under the "Out of Focus" component which aims to feature 5 new photographers who do not make a living as professional photographers and have not had a solo show before.

The other 2 components are an exhibition of works by the great Henri Cartier Bresson and an equally well known master Robert Doisneau. The HCB show promises to be exceptional as there are about 80 of his original works being shown.

Details of the HCB and Doisneau shows can be found HERE.

My show kicks off the Out of Focus component and it opens Jun 8 and runs till Jun 18. Venue is at the City Room gallery space in Basheer Bookstore, 4th Level, Bras Basah Complex. Admission is free, unless you want to tip the starving photographer on the way out. I plan to be at the exhibition space for at least the first week of the show.

Will be exhibiting works from my trip to document Calcutta Rescue earlier this year. Granted most were not RF work though the b/w prints are from a RF cam. Would be a great time to catch up with any of you who plan to come. I know David is coming from KL, though I suspect it's more for the HCB show :)

Hope to see some of you there.

Regards,
Terence

Hi Terence,

Good to see your wonderful work being exhibited in a solo! I will make time to go to the exhibition! Jolly good show I must say!

Regards,
Peter

Thanks guys :) I'm kinda nervous but looking forward to the show nonetheless. It's been an interesting experience thus far working with the show's curator on many different aspects of the exhibition... from selecting the show venue, discussing printing techniques, working on my bio, preparing speeches.... etc

The prints have yet to be done (they'll be inkjet prints as Epson is a sponsor), it should be a rewarding time working with folks who have the know-how to create large format fine art prints. This couldn't come at a better time as I'm in the final stages of creating my home-based digital studio, the knowledge can be put to good use in my own space.

As an added bonus, one of the guests officiating my opening will be Robert Pledge from Contact Press Images. If the plans don't change, he will be there on opening night. Do swing by if you want to meet this living legend of photojournalism.

Congrats! That's something very promising and every photographer's wish.
Its so good that your work is being reconginsed and put on display. I will be there for this great event.

Just received word that Robert Pledge may not be making it to the show but there will be some representatives from Magnum London gracing the opening.

For those who would like to attend the opening (Jun 8), drop me an email (use email link) and I will send an e-invite over.

For the other days, the show will be running daily. Details...

Venue
City Gallery @ Basheer Bookstore
Lvl 4, Bras Basah Complex

Dates
Jun 9-18

Opening Times
10am - 8pm Daily (During the duration of the show)

Please bear in mind that my show is only 1 of 5 which are to be shown consecutively, all at the City Gallery. Will provide details on the other shows shortly.

Hi guys,

Just found this site from one of Terence's post in another forum. Am new to rangefinders and glad I found this thread. Am learning something new every day.

Hope to see you at your exhibition, Terence! Am a great fan of your Calcutta Rescue series. Amazing!

Cheers!

Rebbot, grats on your xpan purchase. How's the hunt for the Mamiya 7 coming along? I might be in the market for one too.

Thanks Terence! :) Have just popped in a roll of Tri-X for testing. Tried a couple of shots during the big walk but still not used to it yet.

I have a couple of offers for the Mamiya 7 but seems too close to the price of a new 7II with 80mm at Cathay.
