Hi all!

Which, apart from the all too obvious collapsible lenses, would be the smallest, most compact 50mm or similar lens in Leica M or M39?
I use an M3 with an M39 Summitar atm, I also have a very scratched collapsible Summicron which I am selling right now, I also have a chrome Summicron-M but that is so very heavy!
I like the Summitar but is there something more compact or even as compact as a collapsed Summitar?
What about a 40mm? A Rokkor maybe?
Thank you
Felix

Voigtlander 50 f 2.5 is sharp & very compact.... works on LTM or M

Yep, 50mm skopar is tiny, especially without the mini hood it comes with. A pretty good performer for the size too.

I saw this thread and was going to suggest the Canon 50/2.2, but you beat me to it 🙂

Well, you have direct experience, whereas I was just quoting your thread. 😉

Oh wow, these really are tiny!
Thank you, I will go comparing and shopping now.
If only they came in chrome...

e: hmm, the market seems to be quite empty. too bad.
How about a 40mm Rokkor?
Are these useable?

The Nikkor-H.C 5cm f/2, Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.5, and earlier version Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 all come in chrome. Here's the Nikkor on a Barnack:

Here's a photo of my 50/2.2 on my Canon 7.

Not sure about the size difference but the 50mm F2.5 Summarit appears to weigh about 1/2 of what the Nikkor-H.C 5cm f/2 LTM and Summitar 5cm f/2 ltm collapsible.

Yes, the Nikkor-H.C 5cm f/2 is quite dense for its compact size, about 225g. The older Summarit-M 50mm f/2.5 is a similar weight, approx 230g according to Leica Wiki.

On the other hand, the newer Leica Summarit-M 50mm f/2.4 might take the cake in terms of size and weight. B&H lists it as 33mm in length, but only 105g!

Comes in your choice of silver or black, but at a price, of course. 😉

The non-collapsible Vintage Line version of the 50mm f3.5 Heliar should be worth looking into, at least the Nikon S-mount version is super tiny.

Jupiter-3. Smallest 1.5 I'm aware of. Size of cron, weights less.
Minolta Rokkor CLE 40 f2 is very small. It has dual inner helicoud part to keep it small.
And it original hoos is not adding to the lens size.
But it is wrong lens on M, IMO.

J-3 on the right. It is right lens after all.
