Sneaky (cat!)

Chris and Pál K, my cat, Joey, likes to roll against recently shed shoes or pants that are still warm with my scent. It seems to be pretty normal, though endearing, cat behavior.

Conversely, I like the warm soothing smell of cat fur - although one longhair cat I had did not have that smell. Never understood why not.

Sneaky rang in the new year last night by sleeping through it on his cat tree!

Hi Chris. Happy New Year to you, Mack, and Sneaky!

Glad to see that Sneaky decided he liked the new cat tree. He looks pretty contentedly comfortable in your photos.

I adopted Molly, a Russian Blue fixed female, from an "individual" shelter mom a few years back and she is now a certified ESA which means I can take her traveling on a limited basis and hotels or more accurately motels, will not complain so much. Before her I had Haley a male kitten that took up residence under a car in the drive that was not driven....and two weeks later as a small kitten he was brought inside...but being and inside outside was attacked and died about a year later from the best I can tell an owl attack. Molly travels well and is also and inside outside cat with a cat door. Recently an unfixed male has visited who used to have an owner and now wants to take over Molly's territory. I feed the "Tom" just inside the cat door and have dropped some flea medication on... but he is 5 times as fast as me and much smarter at being wild than I am at catching him to fix so Molly does not suffer when heat arrives. I live alone but for Molly. She travels well and is very intelligent. TYG Thanks for the essay. When I learn to affix pictures I may post one of Molly and the Tom...ones taken with this great new Contax I from Belgium that just arrived in working order with a 50mm2.8 and coming a 35mm 2.8 Biometar Zeiss...will have negatives scanned. Best to all in the new year!

A couple nights ago, I found Sneaky staring at his food, refusing to eat it. It had been sitting out for an hour and was therefore stale and no longer fit to eat. I had to replace it to get him to stop whining.

Chris, such feline charm! I'm sure Sneaky was very happy about the steak.

In your previous post about the old food, Sneaky's look seemed to say, "You could feed this to a dog, but not to a self-respecting cat!"

Exactly. In a little over two years he's gone from trailer-trash alley cat to aristocrat with a huge house, two human slaves, steak dinners, and a Cadillac to sleep on when he goes outside.

i know this look only too well.
but .. at least my cat could have been lead into eating it. take away the plate with the food out of his sight, stir and turn it upside down a bit, so the dried out surface is no longer visible, and offer it as if it was fresh food.
no guarantee that it works.
important: he must not see what you are doing with the food.

Sneaky is way too smart to be fooled by such con-artistry. I've tried :bang:

it didn't always work with Filou either. about 50% chance maybe ...

OMG, I'm creating a monster!

We had steaks for dinner again, and Sneaky got some. I had a lot of leftovers I put in the fridge for Sneaky to eat later. Later, he got hungry and I gave him more steak. There was now enough left for one more feeding.

Several hours later he wants food again, so I go to the shelf where I keep his canned cat food and ask if he wants some kittyfood. He just stares at me. I pull a can off the shelf and show it to him, and he just stares at me like I'm showing him a big pile of dog sh-t.

I put the cat food back on the shelf and open the refrigerator. He trills loudly, and I pull out the bag of meat. He sees it and starts purring loudly. He was 5 feet away from me on the counter and I could hear it. He runs over to me and starts rubbing all over me. I put the meat on his plate and he eats it all in an instant.

Tomorrow, he's getting cat food because the steak is GONE, and I think he is going to be pissed!

Christopher,

I thoroughly enjoy your Sneaky updates.
Thank you for sharing them.

And I do think he's going to be disappointed tomorrow

He was! I'm buying more meat today, so he'll stop crying 'animal abuse,' 'starvation,' and 'famine.'

Yesterday I bought 25 cans of cat food. I also got Sneaky a can of tuna, to see if he would like it. That was a dumb question...of course he was going to like it! He ate that like he hadn't eaten in a week! Spoiled cat.

Well, Chris, people have told me that my cat has me well trained!

We may need to consider the possibility that Sneaky is equally skilled. :D

(Yes, I know. How can anyone say "no" to such an appealing, imploring little face?)

- Murray

PS. I would suggest getting unsalted tuna for Sneaky. :)

I Cat-sit Cats for my friends and those Cats tell me they are starving most of the time!

Unsalted Tuna, interesting!!

I'm not sure if the stuff I got was unsalted. Kroger had a bunch of different types, including some weird flavors like bar-b-que. I knew that wouldn't be good for the cat, so I bought the stuff that was plain tuna with no flavors. I'll have to check next time I buy to see if it has salt.

Most canned tuna is pretty heavily salted (like most canned foods, in general), so I've always been concerned about giving much of it at a time to Joey. Sometimes the local Safeway has unsalted tuna in the brand I want, but I have to watch for it.

My cruel, bloodthirsty, murderous cat posing with his latest kill: The elusive Catnip Mouse! As you can see, Sneaky was totally exhausted by all that hard work!
