My cat is crazy. A couple times now, I have caught Sneaky sleeping with his head on his water bowl and the long fur on his cheeks in the water!
I shot this photo of him this morning. He's been spending most of his time indoors now since its pretty cold outside this time of the year.

I think its what cats do when they run out of drool.
My cat lays on the bed and licks her fur drooling all the time. When I discover what she is up to it is too late there is a large wet patch on the bed and not it was not me who did it! Eventually she has no drool left so she stops. Then I wash the bed cover.
To be fair this is not her most disgusting habit. In that department there is a draw between (a) bolting her food down then vomiting it back up. Always on a rug, never a hard floor - always a damn rug! And (b) pooping and leaving the litter tray with a dingleberry still attached. Which drops off on a rug. Never a hard floor. Always a damn rug! Cats are comfort seeking creatures. I guess its better than doing either on a damn bed. Fortunately both are not all that frequent but it still gives me the heeby jeebies.

Sneaky likes to sit on the counter and stare out the window, looking for new victims! He killed a mouse in my yard a couple nights ago!

He's awesome. He spent hours last night cuddled up to me on the sofa while I read a book.
See how round he is getting, lol. I'm having to watch his eating because he'll manipulate my son and I into giving him too much. One day he ate SIX cans of food in a 24 hour period! Oink!

We had an adopted stray who had been hungry. Usually cats self-regulate, but this guy ate massively, maybe out of fear of being hungry again. You do need to take up the food dish when he has had the right amount.
it's tough though. These animals with brains the size of Brazil nuts are surprisingly good at running our lives.

My cat, Joey, tries to talk me into giving him more than he should eat. I did for a long time because I didn't know how much I should give him. He has lost quite a bit of weight, but he needs to lose more.
Joey actually knows quite a bit of language, mostly centered around eating. He knows when I'm telling him it isn't time yet. He knows the language I use when I'm going to feed him. He seems to know, "That's all, Joey." And he seems to understand when I tell him sympathetically that he can't have anymore.

Sneaky is much more persistent. Like your cat, he is very well versed in the vocabulary of food/eating.
Here he is trying to guilt me into feeding him after I took the photo of him looking out the window.

Our cat Max always had a bowl of dry food in the garage...he would eat whenever he was hungry but never over eat...he also had a small plate in the kitchen that I would put his treats...he loved ice in his kitchen water bowl...

Joey wouldn't eat dry food for awhile after he discovered canned food. But he always wanted more than the canned food I gave him, so he eventually became willing to supplement with (a controlled amount of) dry food.
Joey will definitely overeat, if given the chance.

Sneaky refuses to eat dry food, which is probably for the best. If I left out food for him, he would weigh 500lb. He is GREEDY.

My Joey has really long fur, as well. After eating, he licks through his neck and chest hair for any food that might be caught there.

Sneaky is not as vocal as some cats I have had. He'll just sit on his stool and stare, sometimes trilling if you ask him if he's hungry. If that doesn't get the food, he'll jump on the counter and walk to the shelf where the food is kept and stare at the cans.

I took these photos of Sneaky on the same night last week.
In the first one, he was sleeping on my son's shoes. About an hour later, he got up and stretched out then went back to sleep on my pile of books on the other side of the room!
