Sneaky (cat!)

Chris, I'm sure that with time Sneaky will warm up to the cat tree.

When my Joey would have nothing to do with the new one I bought him ($200.00 for a heavy duty one that wouldn't get all floppy like the ones before it), I put a towel with his scent onto the platform. I think that helped.

Joey would have nothing to do with his new tree/tower for two months, but now he loves it and he sleeps on it a lot.

by the way, i noticed that only some cats go for catnip. others just don't care.

another note. my wife is not interested in cameras, gear and RFF in general. but there is exactly one thread here, that she regularly reads. of course it's sneaky's.

Its a Voigtlander 21mm f4 Color-Skopar. I bought it new from our head bartender a few months ago.


Love that your wife comes here to just to see Sneaky. I post pics of him on Facebook's cat groups all the time and he has a devoted fanbase! I post these pics on some of the cat groups I belong to on Facebook, and Sneaky gets hundreds of likes and comments, mostly from women, proclaiming their live for my kitty. One recent one got nearly 3000 likes and 200 comments!

Last night, I had a couple of my camera bags on the sofa and Sneaky decided to sleep by them. Cat & Camera, my favorite things!

Love the first of those two photos Chris. Does Sneaky like being brushed? One of our ragdoll's fur became matted when we didn't brush her enough. She had to endure the indignity of a close clip to fix it. When it grew back, it was darker than the rest of her coat.

My friend has a cat similar to Sneaky and it is very vocal, making all sorts of cute cat sounds - chirrups, trills, purrs, little meows, and such. After many many decades being with cats, I'm still learning their cat language.

It's so amusing when cats sit in the window and chitter at birds. It seems they all do that.

I have read that cats have four to five times as many native vocalizations as dogs, though dogs tune in to human speech more effectively.

My cat, at nine years old, has developed his vocalizations as he has matured, such that they are much more varied now than they were when he was younger.

He also understands human language that I have used consistently with him, mostly around feeding. (He can distinguish sweet talk from a sympathetic "it's not time yet;" he knows what I say when I am going to feed him; he knows "that's all;" he understands when I tell him he doesn't get any more food; and he seems to understand "you wanna go outside?." I can head for the kitchen - where he eats - and tell him, "I'm not going to feed you now," and he won't follow me. If I tell him I'm going to feed him, he leads me there. I think intonation, rhythm, and wording, consistently together in combination, are important.)

Sneaky did not meow for the first year that I had him. Not once! I wondered if he even knew how 😱


After about a year he began meowing when he was upset about something, like if my son and I were sleeping with our bedroom doors shut to prevent nighttime assassination attempts. He'd sit in the hallway and loudly meow.


Lately he's been meowing more anytime he wants attention. He has always purred loudly, from the first day that I met him. He has also made loud trilling sounds, and that is the sound he would make to respond when I talked to him. Want to eat? TRILL!


Sometimes now he'll trill and meow at the same time!

Sneaky on my dining room floor, near DEATH from starvation while he waits for me to give him some meat! He instantly came back to life as soon as I got up with a plate of meat in my hands.

You'll enjoy that hair in all your gear. I have a dog who thinks the lap is her sovereign domain and feels the need to occupy it when I'm messing with my gear. A rocket blower in every bag is now a necessity.

Sneaky doesn't shed much, but I brush him daily. His fur mats up badly if I don't, because it is so long and thick.

Sneaky doesn't usually curl up to sleep; he prefers to stretch out on his back like a human! A couple nights ago, I saw him curled up like a normal cat, sleeping on my sofa. He has gotten so fluffy with his thick winter fur that he looked like a perfect ball of floof!

Sneaky likes to sleep on my shoes with his nose in them! Yuck. He was doing it again last night.

Like many animals, I think cats perceive a wide variety of odors that we can’t detect - I suspect that your scent in those shoes smells differently (and better) to Sneaky than it does to you.

I saw a YouTube video not long ago that demonstrated by experiment how dogs determine when their owner is due home not by sensing the passage of time, but by how much the level of scent had dropped within the house over time.
