... the Fed 5b is in my hands now, has a 55/2,8, not sure if it's a Joop or an Industrar. Just PayPal'd a forum member for his Bessa-L which will be on the way shortly, body only;

A) Can I mount the 55 on the Bessa-L, and
B) What's the best WA lens to buy to use on both bodies, and
C) Do any of you know what percentage of full-frame the viewfinder is on a Fed 5b? I'm not sure how much I'm seeing that is going to end up on the film, fearing vicious cropping if I go longer than 55mm.

Thanks in advance!

Craig

I'm not a Bessa person but I believe the L has the LTM mount so the Industar 55mm should bolt right up. It it's a FED 5 its probably the I-61 l/d lens. The L/D is black while the earlier models are all silver. Not sure about the best WA. I think the FSU J-12 (35mm) is so deep it hits the meter sensor on the Bessa.

If you are going to get a wide angle (35mm or wider) to use on both Bessa bodies and Fed bodies, then you need to get a Cosina/Voigtlander one. The cheapest one in their line is a very good performer, very good indeed.

If you just want a 35mm wide angle for the Fed, then the Jupiter 12 is excellent, and cheap, however it won't fit on any Bessa due to the huge rear element, although it will mount on all Leica LTM cameras, all the Zorki LTM cameras, of course all the Fed LTM cameras, and with an "M" adaptor, all the Leica "M" cameras except the M-5 and the CL.

Thanks, Gene - missed you in Van Buren today. Bought that Fed5b from Martin. Also found some good slip-on filters for the Daiichi and the Franka Rolfix - both 32mm filters. Happy happy.
