Obviously, Tom Abrahamsson in Vancouver.
I cannot conceive of using my M2 (or my Rollei 35S -mini-soft release) without it. It is quite simply a game changer for me.

I used Tom A's and think they're great. The only time they don't work is with a Viso II and an M6 - they're too tall. Otherwise, I wouldn't be without them - they seem to make it possible to shoot at slower speeds and they're wonderful if you shoot with gloves in the winter.

I've had Tom A. soft releases on my Leicas since 2004. I took 2 Leica Ms with a softie each on to Iraq and never had any problems with the releases. They allow great feel when using gloves or if you need to get a grab shot from the hip just by touching the camera with the side of your hand. Incredibly quick and makes the camera's handling fantastic. The quality and durability of the Tom A soft release is second to none as well. I've lost a few other brands but never one of his.

I've heard stories of cheap versions where the thread area snaps off or wears down over time and cannot be removed.
Again, Tom A softies (I use the minis) are the way to go.

I am selling the Gin-Ichi original ones, made by Gin-Ichi in Japan. I have been using one on my M6 and it looks awesome.

I have a couple of eBay jobs. One has been on my R-D1 for about two years and it's great. The other I used on my M4. No probs to report. I don't know if it's neccesarily worth spending loads on a 'deluxe' one, to be honest. It's basically a screw, at the end of the day.
