Well now, while I can understand that we do like our cameras to look nice, my feeling is that if I had a vintage old camera, being as I use them instead of collecting them, I'd much rather I'd used it so much that it looked less like a shelf queen and more like this kind of nice:

Actually, my M3 does look at least somewhat like that, as its previous owner(s) and I have not been fussy about it, and have hauled it about with us all over the place to actually take photos. And I'd like to think we've broken it in enough that its future owners will not hesitate to take it out and keep it shooting away.

What conditioner do you use on the Vulcanite? I have used the micro-crystalline Renaissance wax before. It is great! And, easier to use than any other wax. Will not try it on the metal. Hadn't thought of it on cameras.

I wonder about this, I had my IIIf for over 50 years, as I've said, but I have never done anything to protect the 'Vulcanite' and mine is perfect: no shrinkage, no degrading, no fading. Yet I see many with trashed 'Vulcanite.'

thanks for all the replies chaps, very interesting, my IIIG now is fully loaded and ready to go, l have spent the last few weeks just, 'fondling' the camera, sitting exercising the shutter as l watch the telly, now the shutter fires sweetly including the slow speeds, and l have fallen in love with it, l know its been said before but it is so jewel like and the ERC case, (with its little window at the back), is so clever and cool
