Some new photos from Fort Wayne

Amazing photography sir. You are a special asset to your community IMO much like Ms.Thompson I think.

Thanks, Contarama. Most people in Fort Wayne don't know or care that I exist. My work is far better known outside Indiana, and virtually every print I sell goes out of state.

monroe-county-sheriff.jpg

This county sheriff's station is in the small town of Petersburg, Michigan. Coming from a large city, this tiny police station looked funny to me! I photographed it last weekend while visiting friends who live nearby.

6-mile-place.jpg

6 Mile Bar and Pizzeria is a little bar at the corner of Wayne Trace and Tillman Road, just outside the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana. This ancient sign hangs on the garage behind the bar, facing Tillman Road, and it still has the establishment's former name on it, along with old-style Pepsi-Cola logos. A lot of bars and small restaurants in the Fort Wayne area have signs with Pepsi's name or logo. I think that the company gave the signs to places that served Pepsi.

I photographed it a couple nights ago, pretty late in the evening, around 9:30pm.

Really like this one, just a great photo.

ski-hi-drive-in-2.jpg

This abandoned drive-in movie theatre stands at the intersection of State Road 3 and State Road 28 in Delaware County, Indiana, just north of Muncie. It was open until about 2002, and has deteriorated pretty badly in the decade since then.

This is a view across the grounds, looking back to the concession stand and secondary screen from a spot near the entrance. I photographed the Ski-Hi Drive-In in the evening, around 8pm.

Nice image, Chris. I like how the movie screen pops out of the landscape. I read some time ago (on Mike Johnston's "The Online Photographer" site) about a photographer that's travelling around the country looking for these outdoor movie theaters. He's trying to make images of as many of them as possible before they are all lost.

Beautiful tones in this one, Chris. Have you seen the photographs of William Christenberry? A lot of your images remind of his work.

That's Carl Weese who is doing that. We have a number of drive-ins still operating in Indiana, surprisingly enough.

A couple days ago, an old woman I know who grew up near this one told me that when she was a young woman back in the early 70s, this theatre was a porno theatre! That shocked me...a place showing porn on outdoor screens that are visible from the roads....in a small town! Wow.

Nice one, Chris! If you get a chance to go back there this week, I'd love to see an image that includes the whole house, yard, and flag... to get a sense of the surroundings. :)

There isn't much to see. Its in urban neighborhood on the south side, the houses are small and close together. There isn't much of a front yard.

flag-frown.jpg

Here's another one that I shot Tuesday afternoon.

I noticed this little American flag stuck between the boards of a fence behind a house on Killea Street while driving around Fort Wayne's south side. After I stopped to photograph it, I noticed the face painted on the basketball backboard on the garage behind the fence!

fireworks-flag.jpg

I shot this last night at Fort Wayne's annual Fourth of July fireworks event, held on the Indiana University - Purdue University (IPFW) campus.

I swore I had posted in this thread but apparently not. I just wanted to say how much your work takes me back to my 80's college years in West Lafayette and my falling in love with photography back then. Thank you for kindling the memories.

Thanks, Michael. Here's another one from last night.

ice-cream-truck.jpg

This ice cream truck was one of several food vendors at the Fourth of July fireworks at Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). The people in this photograph were the last customers of the night, after the fireworks show had ended.

I think you did post a year or so ago. I remember you posting here, or emailing me, but I can't remember which or when :p

patriotic-girl-perri.jpg

At the 2013 Fourth of July fireworks in Fort Wayne, a lot of teenagers and college-aged men and women came up to me to tell me how awesome my long beard is. A lot of them asked to take pictures of me, including this girl. I photographed her too, since she was decked out in red, white, and blue patriotic clothes.

Thanks! You have a better memory than me! There was no "bent arrow" icon on the thread for me until my present post, so it must indeed have been an email!

...or a PM.

How I miss those warm Wabash summer nights.

uniondale-garage-backdoor.jpg

I photographed this place yesterday evening.

On Railroad Street in Uniondale, Indiana, there is an ancient 19th century building that was an auto repair shop for many years. The old retired mechanic who owns the place lives in an apartment in the back of the building. This is the porch next to the door to his home.
