Some new photos from Fort Wayne

spider-car.jpg

Here's one from the archives. I just added it to my website today, but I shot it in 2010.

I saw this car with a Black Widow Spider parked on Wells Street one day. Does Spiderman have a car? I wonder if it eats Volkswagen Beetles?

Back in June, I found this tree at the corner of State Road 18 and CR300Win rural Blackford County, Indiana. Several of the trees on the property along the highway had these tiny American flags flying from them.

The flags were old, faded, and tattered. As I was loading film in my camera, the woman who lived there ran out with a box of new flags and quickly replaced the old ones!

bounce-house.jpg

This worker looked like was about to fall asleep next to the inflatable Bounce-House at the 2013 Three Rivers Festival in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Very few people were riding the rides this year, probably because of the very high prices. Most of the rides cost $5 per person! Unemployment is still very high in northeast Indiana, and those who do have jobs are not making much.

This is the last of my photos of the annual festival last month.

Yesterday evening, I drove up to Grabill, a small town in Allen County a few miles northeast of Fort Wayne.

The giant American flag on the front of the Grabill Grain Company is different than any other that I have seen. Most of them on businesses like this are painted on, or they hang a large cloth flag. This one is made of the kind of frilly garlands that people use to decorate Christmas trees!

Another view of the huge flag on the front of the Grabill Grain Company. The flag's colors were faded to the dull brownish color you see here. I don't know how long it has been up, since the place was closed when I was there, but its made of Christmas tree garland, which is not made to withstand exposure to the outdoors.

If it's not self-evident to you, I suggest you listen to "Rhapsody in Blue", then start looking at these photos:

If you don't have an epiphany, then don't worry about it.

Looks like a neat place to photograph. Personally, the idea of paying $3000 a month to sleep in a closet is extremely depressing. There are interesting places and people to photograph anywhere, as my photos show.

These photos make me thank god I live in Manhattan.

I think everyone has the right to criticise and no one is above criticism, however veiled that criticism may be. However, it seems a trifle hollow, when the person who is critiquing has nothing in their own public portfolio to display, by way of barometer as to what level of expectation we should hold, in this case, regarding content.

I note that your 500px account is bereft of content. Food for thought.

Boris wasn't criticizing the photos, he was spitting on the people in Flyover Country. The poor, uncultured subhuman peasant trash that infest the vast wasteland between the coasts. His money and residence in New York are obvious signs of his nobility.

born-again.jpg

Here is another of the roadside religious signs that are so common in Indiana. This sign hangs on a tree at the corner of Antwerp Road and Saint Joe Road in rural Allen County, near the town of Leo-Cedarville. It has a verse from the Bible, 2-Corinthians 5:17, painted on it: "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

The sign is small; and the tree it hangs from is set back about 15 feet from the road, surrounded by trees. I think that most people who pass it never notice it. Unlike most of them I see, it is not on a highway or major road.

Here's a crop of the sign so you can see the detail better:

It unfortunately is arrogant morons/trolls like Boris who give the wrong impression of the rest of us New Yorkers.

BTW, your photos are terrific, Chris.

Photography is nothing to do with location ... it's about seeing what's around you.

Thanks for this series Chris. :)

barn-thermometer.jpg

In February, I photographed this old thermometer on the side of a storage shed behind an old farmhouse on Bluffton Road, south of Ferguson Road, in Allen County, Indiana. The thermometer has the logo of Grange Insurance. It also has the name of a local agent, Anthony Wayne Underwriters. They went out of business in 1976!
