Some new photos from Fort Wayne

Heavy fog blanketed Allen County in northeast Indiana on the morning of December 7, 2015.​

This field is on the south side of Lower Huntington Road, about a mile west of the city of Fort Wayne. The sun was beginning to shine through the fog higher in the sky when I made this photograph.

I made several other photos that morning, too, which I'll post soon.

Here is another landscape from the morning of December 7, when fog descended upon the Fort Wayne area. This is on Dalman Road, a couple of miles southwest of the location of the first photo I posted of the fog. It is one of five that I shot on Dalman that morning.

Here's the second landscape scene that I photographed on Dalman Road Monday morning. The fog and shapes of the land allowed me to compose a simple and abstract design from from the complexity of the real world.

This house is on High Street, on the working-class northwest side of Fort Wayne, Indiana.​

In addition to the American flag and Confederate flag flying from the pole in the front yard, there is another American flag on the front door and one of the upstairs windows has a Confederate flag hanging in it like a curtain. The glider bench in front of the house is painted like the American flag.

When I was making this photograph from across the street, two young African-American men walked past the house. One of them noticed the Confederate flag on the pole, then said to his friend: "Look at that Confederate flag! Damn rednecks."

I photographed the house last Thursday.

I love your fog photos, Chris - I used to live somewhere with wonderful shallow fogs, about five feet deep, so you could walk round with your eyes in and out of the mist! I really must do some more minimalist stuff, it's one of the few things I am good at:eek:

Thanks, Adrian. I love fog, and fortunately, we get a lot of it in winter in Indiana. We get those shallow fogs you mentioned a lot in the summer, in the early morning around sunrise. They're almost always gone by 8am. Here are a couple of mine from the summer months:

I shot this one around 7am in September, 2014. Its the baseball field behind a school I teach at. I snapped the photo on my way in to work.

I shot this in August, 2014. The fog broke up after I made this photo, while I was setting up for a different composition. It lasted just a few minutes!

Here's another I really like. It was shot in April, 2014.
 
Very nice, Chris, especially that last one. If I find one of mine in the next couple of days I'll put a link in so you can look, but it won't derail your thread. Weirdest thing I ever encountered in the fog was a Brocken Spectre. Supposed to happen in mountains, this was on a floodplain at 59 metres elevation!

Driving through the small town of Churubusco, Indiana, I noticed Santa Claus and an elf standing on the sidewalk in front of K&K Video, a store at the corner of Main Street (US-33) and Washington Street. Inside the store, they had a place for kids to be photographed with Santa.

This house is on High Street, east of Sherman Boulevard, on the working-class northwest side of Fort Wayne, Indiana.​

The homemade Santa Claus on the front porch is one of the more unusual Christmas decorations that I have seen over the years. It is made from a large female doll's head, a red t-shirt, a store-bought Santa hat, and a beard made of white yarn.​

The American flag on the end of the porch has the insignia of all the branches of the United States Military printed on it, along with the POW-MIA insignia. The man who lives here said that he has the flag displayed along with the two other American flags because his father is a disabled Vietnam War veteran who was sickened by Agent Orange.​

The house is on Third Street on the northwest side of Fort Wayne, Indiana.​

Thanks, Dan. I wish I could have gotten a shot of it when it was still open. The building was painted pink and purple! Just what you'd expect from a seedy strip club! The BW photo loses nothing from the original, since the building was painted a drab gray after the bar closed.

That's funny about the black guys comment. Probably true. I saw a black guy standing on the street corner the other week waving a confederate flag. I was in my work truck so couldn't stop for a photo. Thought that was so funny.

This house is on Greenwood Avenue, south of West Main Street, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.​

The front windows have a handpainted advertisement for Pure Romance Parties, which are like Tupperware parties, but instead of selling plastic food containers, Pure Romance sells sex toys for women!​
