Some new photos from Fort Wayne

This field is on the east side of Branstrator Road, between Lower Huntington Road and Airport Expressway, in the southwest corner of Allen County, Indiana.​

This January morning was rainy and foggy, but by the time I got out here, most of the fog had gone. This is the first of two photographs that I made of this field.​

I thought this "Help Wanted" ad painted on the side of a semi trailer was funny. It says: "Job Satisfaction, 10 Feet Ahead." Ten feet ahead is about where the truck driver would be if the trailer were hooked up to a truck.​

The trailer belongs to Crete Carrier Corporation, a large American trucking company. I photographed it sitting next to Auto Service Center, an auto repair garage on US-33, just north of the small town of Churubusco, Indiana.​

This is the front of the house that has the effigy of Donald Trump hanging from a tree.

Several of the windows have "F--k Trump" signs in them. A banner under one of the second floor windows proclaims: "Trump is a disgrace to America and makes me ashamed to have ever served."​

The huge American flag on the porch hangs upside down, a symbol of distress. It is covered in a long handwritten rant against Trump:​

"No flag big enough to cover the disgrace of a sexist, racist warmongering egotistical fascist who believes in greed, torture, wife cheating, dodging taxes, insulting the disabled & veterans, threatens civilians & the press & throwing daily tantrums on Twitter."​

Aside from the political decoration, that's an interesting and unusual looking house (at least to my British eyes). It looks like it could have been an old courthouse or library. Do you know it's history, and is there a photo of the entire building on the thread?

I don't have any photos of the whole house, but I know it was built as a house. There are a number of houses in that neighborhood that are equally large and imposing looking. The Oakdale neighborhood was, 100 yrs ago when the house was built, a very wealthy part of Fort Wayne. Its an upper-middle class area now.

Houses in Fort Wayne tend to be fairly large. Land is cheap here and so is housing.

The "Go To Hell Cemetery" was on Third Street, between Barthold Street and Orchard Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana.​

The residents on this short stretch of Third Street all decorated their houses with elaborate constructions for Halloween.​

The trailer belongs to Crete Carrier Corporation, a large American trucking company.

Coincidentally, Crete is somewhat local to me, and a co-worker recently quit with us and moved over to Crete. (Office, not driving.)

This house is on the northwest corner of Albert Drive and Tirol Pass, facing south on Albert Drive, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.​

For Christmas, they had a traditional Nativity Scene with Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. Standing behind the nativity scene are the three wise men, Darth Vader and two Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars, holding gifts! R2-D2 can be seen standing inside the house’s front window, wearing a Santa hat.

This is the former State Bank of Kimmell building on the corner of Clark Street (County Road 650W) and Noe Street in the small town of Kimmell, Indiana.​

It is now an automotive and lawn mower repair shop called Foster’s Sales and Service.​

Kimmell is a very small town. Many other very small towns in Indiana have old buildings, like this one, that were originally built as banks. It is interesting that so many little towns could support a bank in the past.​

This building at the corner of Broadway and Stophlet Street in Fort Wayne is home to an antiques and used clothing store called "Little Shop of Laura's."

I first photographed the bench in 2013, soon after Laura Hancock, the store's owner, painted it to look like the American flag.​

Laura later added the chalkboard, whose message changes every week or so. I made this photograph of it on Valentine's Day, when the sign said: "Happy Valentine's. We Love You."​

A bumper sticker stuck on a traffic light control box on the southwest corner of Wells Street and Putnam Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana.​

The sticker says: "I support the police, not criminals."​

This appeared when protests against the police were all over the news because of several highly publicized killings of African-Americans by police officers.​

I like this image because of the dark humor, that being plastering a sticker on public property is itself a crime! Keep up the good work, Chris.

This is a tree stump carved and painted to look like a Minion from the Despicable Me movies. It is next to a house on Northwood Street (State Road 5) in the small town of Ligonier, Indiana.​

The old man who lives there told me that he had to cut down the tree next to his house, so he decided to cut it several feet above the ground so that he could sculpt a Minion from the remaining stump.​

This house is on the south side of 6th Street, east of Main Street, in Mishawaka, Indiana. The windows on the screened-in porch have American flags in them, and another flag hangs outside the house next to the door.

I photographed it back in October. I'm still working through a huge backlog of work from last year that I haven't gotten edited.
