I have a chance to pick this up, I know it's not a particular favorite. I am not happy with the 90mm, and always wanted a lens with a focal length like the 75 Summicron - I know its not as fast. I am wondering if this would make a decent lens to use for portrait. Anyone have any images they have taken with this lens ? The majority of nice portraits that I have seen are with the 45mm, the 90mm is a not working for me, I shot a whole roll out of focus for some reason, and it was AF, just as I thought that the focus issues were a myth on the Contax G, I got back a pretty dismal selection shot with the 90mm. Curious about the 35-70, anyone share any comments? Advice ?

Thanks

You should not be having that many out of focus shots using the G 90mm.

No offense, but I think you have to look at either a malfunction or user error.

I never picked up the Vario-Sonar, but if you can live with the slowness I have a hunch that all the negativity towards this lens is largely unfounded.

I have the Vario-Sonnar and it is one of the finest zooms I have ever owned. If you're a daylight shooter speed should not be an issue, great lens.

I have the Vario-Sonnar but with this lens I have more focus troubles as with the 2,8/90. I think it is because of f/3,5-5,6. Focus is slower and sometimes it needs more trying per shot to find a focuspoint which allows the AF to adjust correctly. So no problems at all!

Vario-Sonnar's not for G1

Vario-Sonnar's not for G1

I hope this is still relevant. The Vario-Sonnar will not work on G1, no matter green sticker! You can mount it, yes, but you won't be able to trip the shutter. It's a beautiful lens, sharp, no distortion a bit heavy (for G lenses). If I was into action shots requiring fast composition in the camera, I would have kept it. As it were I liked the purity of prime lenses, with their unassailable sharpness.
